    Hint hint nudge nudge

    • Rolan7

      They’re so subtle!
Obviously they mean well, but it’s kinda interesting the connection between this and the whole “Find a gentleman” mess earlier… Nice people can accidentally offend.

      • Euodiachloris

That is subtle. I’m seeing no rope, glue or chains. xD

  • Tikatu

Looks to me like little Cassie is as timid as her mother was at the Gula and as her father might be, considering he’s panicking now over the birth of another child. It seems, however, that Nora’s experience with Alexa has given her more confidence, perhaps even more than can be explained by being with her family.

Now, we’re waiting for Grandma and Grandpa Barber–and perhaps Wolfe (with or without Mal and Ben)? After all, Voss told Wolfe about the Barbers and anything Nicola and Florrie can explain will be third or fourth hand info at best. Might be easier for them all to hear it from him.

    • Tsapki

I do hope the whole trio of Malform Busters comes in.

      “You!”

      “What? You know them?”

“Well sort of…shared a train car with them when we couldn’t afford tickets.”

      “Ben?”

“Sidney? What are you doing here? You were expelled.”

“Oh, well I’ve taking up bounty hunting it would seem…”

“My eyes! Two bleedin’ wizards in the same room. Wolf, get this over with already before my head explodes!”

      • Sessine

        Or possibly three!

Mal may or may not see anything unusual about Cassie. We don’t know if the aptitude for wizardry shows up in the aura he sees before adulthood, and/or before any training.

Also, although narrative logic usually dictates that if a child character strongly wants to be a wizard they will eventually become one, that’s really only guaranteed to be true if the story’s ABOUT that child’s journey. For a walk-on like Cassie, the rule doesn’t have to hold. It would only be a ‘nice-to-have’ for fans who like to imagine extra stories about side characters.

      • Apvogt

        Wizards, wizards everywhere.

    • =Tamar

Cassie almost certainly has another reason for being timid. If she lives up to her namesake, she can see what’s going to happen. Now, will they listen?

      • Alétheia

Ooooh, I like that thought. And if no one else does, I can see Mal and Wolfe believing her (and Ben being dragged along, because… reasons?), with Mal grumbling about bloody idiots who refuse to see the truth, and Wolfe being all smiley and like “I think we should go take a look, yes? For curiosity?,” and Ben just.. grumbling. Because Ben is Ben, whether or not he gets along with/trusts Mal now. xD

  • Awww! Cassie is adorable! ^.^

That fifth panel is great. x3

    • Nonesuch

      Full agreement. ^^

  • Twirls

so excited that everyone is throwing everyone around it seems like a super fun place to be, kind of helping to downplay the possibly serious implications of what they’re meeting about because it’s just so FUN! and theya ll like eachother and it’s awesome!

(delete this but I think Nora lost her undershirt in the last panel)

    • Ah bugger, you’re right! Shall fix it, hang on.

Edit: Sorted! I’d forgotten her wedding ring too, oops!

      • Darkoneko Hellsing

Eh, better check in Sidney’s hat. For both !

  • CorvusCornix

Suddenly minifenton. Has she just been behind Nora in each panel?

Harry is so short, and I can’t recall anybody giving her a hard time about it. This must be addressed!

  • Good to see Nora and Florrie showing remarkable restraint. After all, they could have done this.

    • Ryan Thompson

They’re just waiting for Harry to take that pipe out of her mouth.

      • Del

I am impressed with the firmness of her clench. That pipe isn’t going anywhere!

Even when she seems relaxed, she’s still strung pretty tight.

        • Ryan Thompson

She has to refill it some time!

    • Nonesuch

That -is- what they’re doing. :p It’s just hidden in the subtext. *laughs*

    • TheCatCameBack

      YES.

  • Winger

What a fabulous overdose of Barbers! Is Harry the shortest of the lot, then?

    • Nonesuch

When you compress something into a smaller volume, it has a much greater chance of exploding. :D

  • KWill

And that, children, is the story of how Aunt Nora broke Aunt Harriet’s spine.

  • Columbine

    Cassie has Nora’s nose!

  • Looks like Cassandra is expecting some industrial strength bullying from her older cousins.

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

Geoff and her daughter are secretly vampires. You read it there first.

    More seriously,
-I get the feeling Cassandra will be the key to something later.
-Counting the fighters : Nora is out (pregnancy) but should have the cell phone remains ; Cat will definitly want in, Florence will want it but will probably get stuck keeping the kids safe. Edmund GEOFF doesn’t look fit for fighting.

    • Nonesuch

You really think so? I could imagine Fenton bull rushing the *bleep* out of many an enemy. Those are big, muscular arms, and the value of mass in motion is not to be underestimated in martial combat, so long as it’s well-armoured or surprisingly stealthy mass.

      • Darkoneko Hellsing

        aargh !
        Geoff ! I meant Geoff.

but sudden doubt : did Nora have one kid, or already 2, when she got stuck in time ?

        • Tikatu

One. She tells Alexa she has just one.

          • Darkoneko Hellsing

Alright, then that confirm she should have the item already ^^

        • Nonesuch

          And obviously I meant Eddy… >_<;

        • JWLM

Nora had only one while she was locked up in the hotel, but Alexa looked her up after she (Alexa) got back and discovered that Nora would have a second child, a son she would name “Alexander.” Alexa decides that “She can live with that.” (http://www.widdershinscomic.com/wdshn/march-19th-2014/)

That suggests that Nora is currently pregnant with Alexander.

    • Alétheia

Nah, no need to count Florrie and Nora out like that. Nora can protect the children; just because she’s pregnant doesn’t mean she can’t do anything, and something tells me Florrie won’t be kept from actively participating in the fighting so easily. :)

And if any kids do get pulled into the fight, I think Mr. Malik is more the one who would be tasked with keeping children safe, and somehow stumble into playing a major part while doing so, hehe

  • Nonesuch

My goodness, young Cassie has very impressive stealth skills! ^^ I’m sure she’ll love talking to Sidney… once she dares to.

Hee hee, Florrie and Nora are a well-oiled shipping team, aren’t they just? :p Lovely to see.

Hmm. I imagine an artist who often has to do factory work to make ends meet -would- be a bit nervous about adding another child to the family. ^^; Let’s hope it all turns out for the best… And surely the new child’s aunties and uncle will be willing to help if it comes to that!

  • William Rice

Safe to say Flore and Nora ship HarrySyd, and Cassie is adorable

    • Mariel BF

      You mean “Sidry” XD

  • Del

So many characters. I count ten.

(Eleven, if we credit Eddie’s beard.)

    • Columbine

      We credit Eddie’s beard.

      • Alétheia

        We always credit Eddie’s beard.

        • Sanjay Merchant

Yeah, right there as “Catherine Barber”. :-P

    • Jennifer Smeltzer

Uhh, I only count 9(and there’s only nine tags), who the heck is number 10?

      • Lleyn

They must be counting Alexander in.

        • Del

Bingo! I was hoping someone else would see Alexander!

          He’s clearly present in panels 1, 3 and 6.

          • Ruby

            [deleted]

  • I’m beginning to think this family might have a romantic agenda.

    • tali

      Whatever makes yousay that;)

  • Nightsbridge

Is that a SHY wannabee wizard? Oh my gosh, how cute

    • Euodiachloris

She’s cross-classing with ninja. Not a common mix, but I’m sure Barber genes can make it work. ;)

      • Columbine

Is it bad I wanna make that now? Cassie Fenton, saviour of Skyrim…

        • Nightsbridge

If only ninja was a skyrim class . . .

          • Columbine

Hey enough stealth upgrades and the Nightingale armour and it pretty much is-

            • Pedasc

I did a ‘sneak mage’ in Oblivion. My favorite trick was a spell that was a combination of summon and a short period of invisibility. I don’t think it ever failed to work. Unfortunately there was no spell crafting in Skyrim. The trick still kinda works though.

              • Columbine

High sneak, summon (based-fire-things for me), move away, invisibility. Watch as the guards run around and then forget that someone summoned that thing!

        • Euodiachloris

Unseen, until she mages at you. Then *poof* up into the rafters or tree canopy…

  • Mariel BF

Haha Harry’s “ASSISTANT”. Nora has jumped on the ship…

Anybody else think our shy-little wizard wannabe’s glasses look like Harry Potter’s?

  • Hah! Looks like Nora and Florrie is team-taggging for their shipping-entreprise!
    … and I’m not talking boats here…;-)

  • Twirls
  • Rezilia Grieves

    Takes after ‘er father, a’see.

    • Wyvern

      My thoughts exactly!

  • Carouselkie

    Nudge, nudge. Hint, hint.
    aka
GET THE EFFIN MESSAGE ALREADY YOU TWO. >.<

  • Hans Rancke

Nora and Florrie really are exceptionally clueless. Urging a stubborn person to do something is very likely to increase his resolve to dig in his heels and not do it. It’s as if they don’t know their sister at all.

    • Nonesuch

Don’t be silly. ^^ Florrie can wrap her older sisters right around her little finger and run circles around them when she wants to. Look at how handily she’s corralled them all in one house, when two of them weren’t on speaking terms anymore!

    • CorvusCornix

Nonesuch has a point. Who was it that got Sid and Harry so close in the first place hmm?

      • Hans Rancke

That would be Sid and Harry. On their own. Despite Florrie’s bumbling, not because of it.

        • CorvusCornix

Well sure, but Florrie’s bumbling didn’t prevent it from happening, and it may have been what got the seed in Harry’s mind in the first place.

  • Kaunisenkeli

I don’t know. I just don’t ship Syd and Harry, but that may have something to do with my hope that Harry is ace and/or aro.

  • That hussy is showing off her ankles again!

  • Del

I check Widdershins every day, just in case Kate sneaks in a little something extra.

  • Dragon

Little Cassie’s fretful expression makes me want to give her a hug so bad :(

  • That would be the one that likes kittens and wants to be a wizard, yes?
