Well the lying fox would have the relevant expertise I suppose.

    • =Tamar

“Jealousy” never thinks that it’s lacking in any way; that would mean there was a reason they didn’t have some ability they want to get the easy way. So he’d never consider stealing intelligence.

  • JWLM

Kate, you’re running out of deadly sins, you know. Does that mean we’ll get the second volume of Darken sometime soon?

    • Silly Zealot

I’m rather wondering how the author will manage to feature lust in the story and still keep it PG-13.

      • Rulebook Lawyer

Shouldn’t be too difficult in a Victorian setting. The old classic movies would be good examples, Gone with the Wind, War and Peace, etc.

        • Silly Zealot

I don’t get what you mean.

          • Rulebook Lawyer

Errr, in answering your question of how to keep a PG-13 (or lower) with Lust, in such a time period. The BBC Miniseries of War and Peace (1970) of Princess Helene ‘flirting’ with Count Pierre Bezukhov would be an example. She has a lot of cleavage showing (for the time) and tends to distract the Count with how she maneuvers herself.

            • bats_eye

I’ve always had a problem with Lust being depicted as a beautiful woman who produces lust in other people rather than someone is themselves lusty. Like gluttony isn’t a delicious cake, you know.
Lust should really just be a huge pervert.

              • Spoilers- there is no way on god’s green earth that Lust will be just some busty lady.

                • I’m imagining Sir Les Patterson, only without the charm.

                • Silly Zealot

I assumed it would be a shapeshifter, so I am not surprised that it won’t be JUST a busty lady.

                  And bare ankles, OH MY!

                • Rulebook Lawyer

Technically Earth is a blue planet… semantics… Outside of that I am suspecting a waterform for Lust.

                  • okapi

maybe when we colonize the ocean we will run into the problem of how things are depicted in God’s blue earth ;). or, to further semanticize, may “earth” refer only to what land is made of, and not all that’s on this spheroid planet

                    • Rulebook Lawyer

True, true; or to go further and deeper of semantics, well maybe not semantics would be proper, but of perspective; Allah’s Brown Earth.

                • Me-me

                  What about a well-hung dude?

              • Rulebook Lawyer

Oh, I only meant how Lust cold be portrayed in possessing people while keeping to a clean public rating.

              • DaggerPen

You took the words right out of my mouth. Less “sultry woman” and more “Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame meets strip club frequenter”, please.

          • I am expecting to see bare ankles. Or even -gasp – bare knees, although that would be pushing the bounds of morality somewhat.

I was expecting this to be an eight story arc. One for each of the deadly sins and then a final eighth volume where it all comes together in a final dramatic conclusion involving all the characters and a broken mobile phone.

      • I got plans on this, too!

      • Bennett Eidsness

Well, I’m fairly certain lust is technically just the pursuit of happiness, so I’m imagining the purple hippo of happiness, only bigger, happier, and more fun.

    • I got plans!

      • Silly Zealot

        Darken part deux confirmed!

        • JWLM

That’s how I read her comment.

I hope we’re right: I really enjoy Widdershins, but I liked Darken even more. If nothing else, the bad guys don’t win in Widdershins.

          • Silly Zealot

            I jest, I jest.

            Or do I?

        • It will definitely be done, yeah. I just need a spare couple of weeks to slam through the page rearrangement, really.

  • DaggerPen

Do I spot a Saga reference there? Man, I need to start picking that series up, everyone says it’s so good.

    • I like it a lot, yeah. I was way into Y: The Last Man too, BKV has some pretty great ideas.

      • Saga is so very good. I also loved Y: The Last Man…but last volume destroyed me emotionally. If you like Fiona Staples as an artist, I recommend Mystery Society.

        • One of my favourite things I own is the first Y: The Last Man hardcover, signed by Pia Guerra, with a little Ampersand drawing in it :3 She even picked up a copy of Widdershins! Best day ever.

          • Oh you lucky duck! You have no idea how jealous I am. I’m from a really small population province, and we never get nifty people here!

  • Cooper

    Lying Barber thinks you’re lying.

    • David Argall

Well, in some rather strained sense she could be telling the truth here. For any number of reasons, relations between her and the rest of the family may be quite strained and she has been disinherited or regards herself as such. One sign? of this might be her copper profession. Adventurers are borderline criminals who are never that far on the side of the law, and she may have reacted badly to finding out about some of Granddad’s more irregular actions.
More mundanely, she may be adopted, and while legally a relative, is not one by blood. But she does look like a Barber, tho that can be the limits of the paint.

      • No, she’s lying. Captain Barber may be a good police woman, but she’ll never make a good poker player.

  • Rulebook Lawyer

    Outsmarting Fox thinks you’re outsmarted.

  • awhorl

Well, after all these opportunities for theft of smarts, Voss is still “you fool,” eh? Whatever peccadillo characterizes each of the Deadlies, they all share the overweening pride that goeth before the fall of the classic criminal mastermind . . .

  • Nicola Barber is (not) really a very subtle woman… :p
