      My grandfather was a master at this. He called it “creative incompetence.” The secret is, whenever someone asks you to do something, to do it just badly enough that they never ask you to do it again, but not so badly that they realize you’re doing it on purpose.

    Bah, I just use a butcher knife for everything. Plus, while wielding a butcher knife, people don’t bother you while cooking.

  • So, any speculation on Mr Booth’s time zone? Chef’s clothes and hair could be from almost anytime. From the general lack of manners I’m guessing modern – late 1980’s or later.

      With that collar size (80s were generally skinnier collars on chef coats) and the colors, I’d guess mid 90s to early 2000s, but it could also be a particular restaurant or chef’s standard uniform for his staff. The rolled up sleeves, however, indicate he’s a less formal chef and that would mean post Marco Pierre White Michelin stars, so 1994-ish onwards. Guesses all, of course!

    From what we know about jerky characters, though, is that they soften up in the end. *hint hint*

    I once heard the story of a musician and his roommate. The roommate came home late several times, and the musician would get on his back endlessly. So what the roommate started doing, is every time the musician was a jerk, the next time he was late, he would play a piece by Beathoven on the piano – but leave out the last bar. This bugged the musician so much that he had to get out of bed and play though the whole dang thing again so he could do it right.

    The moral of the story is: artists are was to aggravate. :D
