Lust is keeping a low profile. He insist on being a mysterious endboss

    • Darkoneko Hellsing

I’ve been wondering if it’s just pretty much impossible to detect him while/if he’s inside the anchor.

      • John

The anchor would be my guess as well, since that is what he seemed specifically interested in when he was talking to the other deadlies here

Although I’m not sure how close he can get to the anchor itself right now. Taking over Widdershins sounded like a necessary step to getting control of the anchor, and I think (hope) they haven’t gotten far enough with that yet.

    • Sanjay Merchant

Huh. At first I thought the hot pink on the left end was Lust, but you’re probably right that Lust is the missing one and the spot on the map is pride.

  • Euodiachloris

I foresee roping and towing in Mal’s near future… ;P

  • BaronHaynes

    Sloth went back to Lamplight
    Gluttony at Hotel Gula
    Pride at the University
    Wrath at the Gallows (nice)
Envy at Town Hall (or Town Square?)
Greed at High Street (near Harry’s office or central Police Station?)

    • BaronHaynes

Also, I think I know where Lust is, but I don’t want to spoil it if I’m right.
      Maybe that’s a little presumptuous, though :P

      • GristleMcNerd

…is the answer “in your pants”?
(“you”, in this case, being… anyone, really)

        • AJ

          Oh fer cheese.

        • Sapphire altera

          • GristleMcNerd

Sorry, no. Your equipment must be faulty. Though I’ve seen a few of their videos, so it’s entirely possible that I was subconsciously quoting ’em

            • The “In Your Pants” joke preceeds Nerdfighteria. (Srsly, I remember it being around in Jr. High back in the early 90’s.) But it was usurped by the Nerdfighting community. DFTBA, Sapphire & Gristle! :D

    • Sanjay Merchant

Maybe Greed can’t make up it’s mind whether to go to the Market or MacCavity’s hideout?

      • BaronHaynes

Hmmm…I think the map is showing people/objects the spirits are influencing, so it makes sense that Greed would be scatted throughout both those areas.

        • Sanjay Merchant

Benji’s line suggests that (or something similiar) is the case, but if Greed is trying to influence both the Market and the MacCavity’s, it still seems weird that you see one large concentration in between, rather than two smaller ones at each place. And if the sins can’t divvy up their influences (ie they exist in one spot and their influence radiates from there, with strength proportional to proximity), I’d think Greed would get better results picking on and using it fully than keeping both on the edge’s of its influence.

Of course, it may be going for Harriet’s office, because Treasure Hunting could also be influenced by that. (Or it could be trying to get people to loot the place. 0.0 )

EDIT: Of course, all of this is probably over-analyzing things way too much.

          • Amy

Well, it’s Greed – of COURSE it wants them both!

            • disqus_ealSxkOnJn

Imma go with this. Plenty of stories out there about how greed causes you to lose everything. Would make sense that Greed’s, well, greediness would cause it to over-stretch. So instead of having a firm influence on one place, it barely influences a bunch of places.

          • Alternatively, he visited them both, made them want to take each other’s stuff, and now they’ve met in the middle for brawling and/or gambling or maybe looting.

    • Sanjay Merchant

Also, is Pride going for the University or for parking itself up on the hill? (In view of passing trains no less!)

Also, that hill might be the site of where Harriet got to body slam a princess.

    • AJ

      Bless you.

    • Pangaea

If the colours of the rainbow each represent one Sin, then Indigo is missing. Yet I can’t see Lust as being represented by Indigo.

      • disqus_ealSxkOnJn

I don’t know if they’re supposed to be. The “orange” is more gold, the “yellow” is more chartreuse/yellow-green, the “violet” is really more pink/magenta. I think it’s just kind of coincidental. Even if we are going with ROYGBIV, it’s very loose and the indigo will be a shade of indigo that’s fitting.

I cannot remember what color lust was…

    • SaberRoy

Sloth still at Lamplight fits a lot considering it was probably to lazy to leave so just hung around in some capacity, probably napping, until everyone was released (Probably complained for five more minuets as well).

    • Sonny

When I look at it, it looks like Envy is actually at the Royal Theatre next to the Town Hall. Which is odd, because that location only previously showed up in Greed’s story….

  • MoeLane

OK, so I’ve been trying to map out the Seven Heavenly Virtues from the Psychomachia* that each of our heroes/heroines might evoke to fight the Deadlies, just because. This is what I came up with:

    Chastity (opposes Lust): O’Malley
Temperance (opposes Gluttony): Alexa, via proxy
    Charity (opposes Greed): Sidney
    Diligence (opposes Sloth): Verity
    Patience (opposes Wrath): Ben
    Kindness (opposes Envy): Wolfe
    Humility (opposes Pride): Harriet

I am not wedded to this lineup, and of course Word Of Kate can instantly override it. But I find it an interesting way to speculate about what happens next.

*Which I first heard of ten minutes ago, so don’t be impressed by the name-drop.

    • Basil Sage

I like your theory, but I don’t know about some of those matches. For instance, Wolfe has opposed Wrath (and by ‘opposed’ I mean ‘been used as a magical resource to throw at’) before in a way that’s essentially very similar. Will this really happen again? I doubt it, if only for narrative reasons. I do believe Kate hinted O’Malley would be forced to opposed Lust at some point, but I’m not sure.

And Alexa may be the supplier of a conduit, but she isn’t there and I don’t know how she could be brought there without breaking history. I mean, she gives Nora her phone because she knows Harry would need it. She knows from history how this big fight will go down, and I assume she would know if she were a key participant. So we still need a seventh character, which makes me wonder whether Nicola might return in time, or Florence show up.

Another thought: won’t it be wild if characters were somehow made to oppose those Deadlies that represent their worst character flaws, and not the opposites of their strengths? This ruins Mal vs. Lust, but has some good potential otherwise.

      • MoeLane

Oh, it’s definitely rampant speculation on my part. :) I tried to mix qualities and past history whenever possible, using this chart: using that, for example, Wolfe works well against Envy both because the fight with Envy was his story and the qualities associated with Kindness from that linked source (“Charity, compassion and friendship for its own sake; empathy and trust without prejudice or resentment. Unselfish love and voluntary kindness without bias or spite. Having positive outlooks and cheerful demeanor; to inspire kindness in others.”). But I’m not married to my idea, here: I have merely set it out among the coffee and danishes for a pleasant morning’s discussion. :)

      • Amy

On the other hand, given Wolfe’s flirting and his getting distracted on an important mission to dance with Florrie, that opens up the possibility of WOLFE vs. Lust, which could be very, very fun.

        • Basil Sage

Yesss, I had that thought also. Matching Deadlies to characters with whom the corresponding virtue is in short supply may have Verity confronting Pride AGAIN, perhaps Mal dealing with Wrath (as patience is not his strong suit), maaaybe Sidney opposing Sloth (relatedly to his dropout/never been a very diligent student status).
(hey, this is coming together nicely for wild conjecture!)
I can easily see Ben having to face Envy, as he constantly compares himself to others, being too insecure not to. Kind of drawing a blank on Harriet and the additional mystery character vs. Greed and Gluttony, though.

          • MoeLane

That would be a cool way to do it, too. Nice way to develop characters.

…Or, hey, they could do the sensible adventuring party thing and gang up on each Deadly Sin to defeat them in detail.. Fair fights are for suckers and NPCs, after all. :)

            • Basil Sage

Oh, for sure. They wouldn’t split up, since half of the current party aren’t even wizards, and obviously there’s only one witch. That doesn’t mean individual characters won’t have a special part to play in specific battles, though. Just like Nora had a special role in defeating Gluttony and Wolfe had a special role in fighting back Wrath, despite not being wizards and only ever fighting as part of a group.

      • svartalf

I would believe Mal against Lust. Not because of him being the opposite, but rather the Witch so he can seal that breach.

    • Harry is not even a little humble :)

    • Sanjay Merchant

I stand by my theory that, if we go by “each character opposes a particular sin” model, Nora is the representative of Humility. And I don’t care that she and Florrie got sent off to make sandwiches at the beginning of the book: they’ll be back somehow.

    • Okay, so which character represents which stage of cocaine addiction?

      • MoeLane

        I… have no idea?

  • AJ

Alright, Mal, you got your bit of fun with poor “Benji.” It’s time for your rude awakening: These guys are taking you there if Harry has to cuff you and Verity has to drag you.

    • John

It will be easier to get him there if they convince Wolfe that it is necessary to get him there, but regardless I don’t see Mal’s predictable refusal to go near the anchor as something that will survive the demands of the plot.

  • ExasperatedDwarf

O’Malley looks kinda….smug? Is he still laughing over ‘Benji’, or is this a ‘I’m not going and you can’t make me’ kinda thing?

    • I think he is approaching a sharp learning curve far too fast

      • AJ

I hope he is wearing his helmet!

    • non_canon

I’d say a bit of both, especially considering in the third panel it looks like he’s smirking at Ben while Ben tries to fix his hair.

  • Pride at the University? Figures.

I’m in the middle of writing a story set in part at the University. I foresee a large quantity of deleting ahead :-(

  • M. Peach

    Red/Wrath = Town Hall
(No relation except generally. Wrath was desummoned at Voss’s place.)
Orange/Greed = Unmarked area between High Street and the river -maybe thieves’s guild?
(Greed desummoned there, maybe? Though it looked more like the “Macavity’s Hideout thing.)
    Yellow/Gluttony = Hotel Gula
    (Gluttony desummoned there)
    Green/Envy = Royal Theater
(Tragic buggerlip desummoned and altercation with Fairbairn? No relation except generally, and no where near Deosil Brewery or Voss’s house where Envy featured. Where did Envy go?)
Light blue/Sloth = Lamplight Co. (destroyed)
    (Sloth summoned there and desummoned?)
    Purple/Pride = University of Widershins
(Near where Pride summoned -the Anchor- and desummoned -Town Square? or the road in front of the University)
    Indigo??/Lust??? = Who knows

    • Sanjay Merchant

Well, a lot of people envy famous people, so, narrative considerations aside, hanging around a theater might be the best thing for Envy to do his thing.

Similarly, as has been pointed out, Wrath seems to be going for the Gibbet or possibly to start a riot in the gaol.

    • JWLM

Not to mention the greed represented by the Tesco on the High Street. No, I think it makes perfect sense for Greed to be hanging out there.

      • Euodiachloris

Are you sure it’s not Barclays? <_<

  • Yes you are, O’Malley.

  • svartalf

Ah, Mal…you don’t get it, do ye? You’re ultimately going there whether you like it or not Lad…’tis FATE, it is.

  • Winger

Aw, c’mon Mal, that’s YOUR anchor. Sort of. Somehow. Buggered if I can guess how that works, but looking forward to finding out.

  • Del

£10 or $20 says that Mal goes to the Anchor.

    • John

Good luck finding someone (other than Mal) to take the other side of that bet.

  • dana

    Mal is so cute.

He thinks he has a choice.
