  • Darkoneko Hellsing

    Uh Oh.

  • You took the words right out of my mouth, Harry.

  • Maria Gerasimova

    And… doors?…

  • Me-me

Soft Mal, Warm Mal, little ball of grime. Grumpy Mal, Sleepy Mal, ‘s’fine ‘s’fine ‘s’fine.

    • MoeLane

I’ve heard worse pitches for a kid’s book.

  • Imagine Ink

Darn it, Mal. I knew you were going to have trouble with Sloth, but it hasn’t even shown up yet!

  • Azmodan

    Yer a wizard O’Malley!

    Alternatively;

    He’s a wizard Harry!

    • Ocean Burning.

Don’t tell the witch he’s a wizard. Also, don’t tell him he’s a witch, he doesn’t like that either.

  • Ocean Burning.

Huh, and I had just been wondering recently why it seemed like things had been going so much more easily for Mal and Harry than for the team on the outside… … Whoopsie, Mal.

  • Ghostdanser

“It only works on wizards…” says the witch. *DOH!*

  • Maria Gerasimova

But Mal’s words in the last panel are not blue yet!

    • AJ

Not being controlled by Sloth. The imbued oil just put people to sleep.

      • Ocean Burning.

Well, technically, under the influence of Sloth, since that was what the oil was imbued with, but yeah, I guess that’s not the same thing…

      • Do they not have ether in this universe?

        • AJ

This is a quick, off-hand answer:

I’m pretty sure ether would have been way more obvious than tainted lamp-oil, since the oil specifically targeted wizards and ambient ether would probably have knocked out bystanders.

  • O’Malley imbued with sloth? How would you tell?

  • Pangaea

Not to sound alarmed, but this place was empty when they came in. So what are those two objects in the first panel? Did two of the doors come out of their frames?

    • AJ

I think we’ve just discovered that the doors are freestanding, rather than against some kind of “wall.”

      • Maria Gerasimova
        • AJ

The brown swirling is not a wall, it’s just indistinct. So think of it like fog, and the doors are on the edge of a place where the fog is mysteriously cleared away?

        • Del

          oops…

      • Ocean Burning.

        Oh, maybe so!

  • Sir_Krackalot

Lullaby, and good night, oh we’re screwed everybody~

  • I have no idea why it says ‘no comments’ at the top when there’s clearly 15 of them- wordpress and disqus are acting kind of oddly together today and it’s concerning me.

    • Ocean Burning.

Yeah, I thought that was weird. On my phone, where Disqus is blocked but WordPress (I think) seems to work, there aren’t any comments showing up at all.

      • I’m trying an import thing- it’s kinda funny, on the wordpress dashboard it’s repeating a comment you made on the last page like 20 times, it’s a bit ridiculous! https://i.gyazo.com/988d0273a012ba3f6593daf052080386.png It’s nothing you did wrong, of course, but wow haha

        • MoeLane

And here I was, ready to yell ‘First!’

          Well, not really.

          • AJ

Oh I was totally gonna. I didn’t grow up in the 90s for nothing!

        • Ocean Burning.

Wow, really strange. But I’m glad you found a way to get the comments working again, hopefully no more problems after this!

  • Emily

Note that the swirly background is getting increasingly bluer…

    • AJ

      I think that’s bad but… blue! I thought we liked blue….

  • MoeLane

    Oh, bother.

  • Sorry about the comment wipe, trying to fix it- Disqus and WordPress decided to stop talking to each other for no actual reason.

    • Ugh, okay, we have no idea how to get the old comments back :| Missing nearly all of them for chapter 6 and 7. Sent a thing to Disqus support, just gotta just hope, I guess.
Edit: It seems to have broken through some sort of barrier and is restoring things, I think? Maybe? Aaaa?

      • Okay it might be slowly rebuilding things now, I have to leave it a while to do its thing, I think. Fingers crossed, this comment section is definitely worth fighting for!

      • #092f0a

The comments definitly still exist. People’s comments show up in their profiles, and clicking “view in discussion” leads to the full set of comments and a thumbnail of the page it refers to

        • Mm, they exist, but don’t seem to populate the page. Really odd.

          • Bo Lindbergh

It looks like the links in the old disqus topics have been edited. For example, from http://www.widdershinscomic.com/wdshn/august-25th-2017/ to http://www.widdershinscomic.com/2017/08/august-25th-2017/Weirdly enough, that second URL redirects to the first.

            • Hm, you’re right! No idea how to fix that one, though..

              • Ah hah, the URL mapping works! Just gotta pick out all of the pages that lost their comments and edit it all together. Wonderful!

                • John

I’m glad you’re going to get the comments back, I just wish there was a less tedious way to do it.

                  • Bo Lindbergh

Tedious tasks is what computers are for.

                • I think all of the comments are now restored! Massive thanks to Bo for picking out the correct URLs and saving me a ton of time!

  • Brother Nightmare

Come on, fight it, you’ve dealt with this one before, it didn’t affect you back then… did it?

    • Emily

It didn’t seem to affect him last time (other than his not liking the smell), but now he’s A) accepted that he’s a witch, and B) is in the in-between space, where lots of things are different. One or the other, if not both, is probably making him vulnerable to the oil.

  • Del

    So…. about those doors?

  • Rachel McGonagill

    You’re getting verrrry sleeeepy.

  • megan

Can i please have some of this? I need an excuse when i fall asleep in class ;)

    • megan

I say even though I’ve never fallen asleep in class ahahahah

  • Emily

Note that the swirly background is getting increasingly blue…

    • Emily

Sorry about the repeat – I posted this one yesterday evening when I thought the first one was gone forever. So glad you got all the comments back!

  • OOP-sie

  • dreadbeasts

Oho, VERY nice subtle tinge of blue on the characters!

  • Emily

Come to think of it, Mal got up earlier than usual this morning ( http://www.widdershinscomic.com/wdshn/april-4th-2016/ ), so even if he’s not in as bad a state as Ben, he was probably tired already, which just increases the effect of the lamp oil.

Let’s hope there’s not any old oil still lying around at Lamplight when the outside party gets there, or Ben will get knocked out before they even get within reach of Sloth…

  • NO. NONONONONONO DO NOT TAKE THE WITCH OUT WITH A SLEEPING DRAUGHT DO NOT DO NOT DO…

    /too late

  • McFrugal

Hmm, I’m guessing a witch is actually a wizard whose aura is so strong it gets sucked into the Anchor. Or maybe wizard auras are indications that someone is partially attuned to the anchor, while witches are fully attuned to it?

  • Emily

Random question for Kate that I’ve been wondering about: does Mal wear a scarf all the time because of the scar on his neck, or is it just because he’s more comfortable having as much of himself covered as possible?

    • The scar doesn’t bother Mal, but he can see it bothers Wolfe, so he tries to keep it hidden. The latter is also true though!

      • Emily

Aww, that’s so sweet! Mal may be difficult most of the time, but he definitely has his moments.

  • codebracker

Finally caught up, glad to have found this one
