Oh dear. That is not very promising.

    Nice catch though Harry!

  • Greenwood Goat

    Obvious solution:

Harry: *cradles Mal* I shall awaken my sweet prince with a kiss! *puckers up*

Mal: *gag* *retch* *awaken* Wa’ ever ye were about to do, stop it!

    Harry: *unpucker* Glad to. :-)

I have two theories. One is that Ben will be the one to stand strong and save everyone. The second is that Sid will stand strong here and Ben will be the one to stand strong against greed.

    • Azmodan

It will be Verity. She is way too hyper to succumb to sloth.

    • The Wing

I’m pretty sure Ben is already out of the picture. He seems to be sagging in the last panel.

      • Maria Gerasimova

I’d like you to be mistaken.
        I don’t lose hope.

      • Emily

I took that as a “Great, something *else* going wrong…” sort of slump more than tiredness.

        • The Wing

Oh, I hope that’s the case! I mainly interpreted Verity’s stance as being ‘what’s happening to you?’, but now I see she’s probably just reacting to the mist. I like Ben so I hope he won’t succumb!

          • Emily

            >I like Ben so I hope he won’t succumb!

            Me too!

        • Tilly Jackson

He was yawning a couple of pages ago though…

          • Emily

I should have said, not *just* tiredness. He’s definitely exhausted, but the “hff” sounded to me like an exasperated/resigned sigh.

        • Maria Gerasimova

          It’ blue :(

      • Sapphire altera

Wasn’t the lamp oil last time particularly effective on wizards? Since Sidney, Mal, and Ben seem to have reacted the strongest, this is probably the case again.

      • Tsapki

Well, taking out Pride seriously wore him out. Sloth, I imagine, preys on one’s desire to just not having to worry about things, on how much you just want to let go of your cares and woes and just lay down and embrace a reprieve from all your troubles.

Ben definitely seems like he might want everything to just be over after that episode with Pride.

    • Ocean Burning.

I do hope we find out what happened to the councilwoman. Like Nicola, I was really not satisfied with the way she just vanished without a trace…

      • AJ

        Um… Didn’t Sloth EAT her?

        • Heylir

Well, the offering was “eat all of sleep”, there was nothing to be said about eating… mmm… the body.

          • AJ

Yeah but it was also said that whoever got all their sleep eaten would die.

(Also, stop imitating it! That’s creepy!)

            • Maria Gerasimova

              The body wasn’t found.

            • Tsapki

That actually just made me think of something.

Maybe Sloth is STILL eating the councilwoman’s sleep. How long does it take for a person to die from sleep deprivation?

              • Ocean Burning.

                Way scary.

              • non_canon

That….is a very horrifying twist on that whole thing.

      • non_canon

My thing is that since the theme of this story is that everyone comes back for the finale she could as well. Especially since they’re going back to where they started.

    • TheGorram Batguy

I’d say Sid is the most manic of the group, but he’s had his spotlight enough for a while. Really not sure how this one will go. Maybe a rousing violin tune will save the day?

      • John

But Wolfe gave his violin to Voss for safe keeping.

  • John

The witch being affected by a deadly while inside the anchor’s space between worlds seems to be having severe consequences

    • Ocean Burning.

      “This… is… worrisome.”

      • AJ

Indubitably, but you’ve got quotation marks, and I can’t catch the quote from the three words. Might I have a source?

        • Ocean Burning.

Lol, I didn’t expect anyone to recognize it, but my built-in anti-plagiarism defenses don’t allow me to quote something without quotation marks. It’s from my favorite show, Platoon of Power Squadron by Jake Jarvi, on Youtube. Watch it, you’ll love it. : )

          • AJ

            Love is… ah… such a strong word… XP

            • Ocean Burning.

Haha, well, there are two things I always try to tell people about: Platoon of Power Squadron and Widdershins. I wish I’d found both of them much sooner than I did!

              • AJ

                Two so very different things!

    • rhapsha

Yep. It seems that that whole “afraid of witches” didn’t just come from somewhere. It looks like the in geographic location of their anchor, a witch can exert/wield incredible influence.

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

Ben just want to go home and take a nap.

    • Heylir

And he even hasn’t home now, poor guy. :(

      • Ocean Burning.

        No home… no books… D:

      • Darkoneko Hellsing

        Oh, right :|

  • Sir_Krackalot

Guess this is the brains and brawn power duo segment, then.

    • TheGorram Batguy

Or the sugar and coffee power duo segment.

  • Emily

Now that’s a complication I didn’t expect! I like Harry catching Mal one-handed as he collapses.

    • Especially since she was apparently a yard or two away when he started falling. Good reflexes.

  • pingo1387

Ooh, this is a very nice page! Everything feels so ominous—if it were a film, I’d imagine all sound save for footsteps and voices would be muffled.

  • Robbie Perham

Mal and his big mouth eh

  • Didn’t we burn this place down last time?

  • AJ

We all spent so many days squeeing over Mal and his blue things, and now we’re all panicking because Mal’s gotten his blue all over the place.

    >.> Mal! Clean up after yourself!

    • TheGorram Batguy

He couldn’t keep his magic contained and it just blue up all over the place.

      • AJ

That’s AWFUL. Go sit in the corner!

        • TheGorram Batguy

Hey now, it wasn’t that bad. Don’t faint or anything. I didn’t mean to make you feel blue. I guess I just mist the social cues around here. I do my best, but sometimes I haven’t the foggiest…
          (I’m not sorry.)

          • AJ

A punner who’s sorry? I’ve never met such a thing.

  • Sarah Hardister

I can’t stress enough how I love Kate’s way of painting each chapter with each Deadly’s distinct color. This is a great introduction to Sloth. With a creepy, dark blanket of fog. I have a gut instinct that Sidney in particular is going to shine here.

  • billydaking

So, is that Harry’s “..hfff” coming through the mist….?

    • Emily

      Ben’s, I think.

    • TheGorram Batguy

If it were Harry, it would be a “Hrm”.

  • Added a tier to the Widdershins Patreon- if we get a little more a month, I’ll pay Disqus their dang blood money to remove the ads from the bottom of the comments- https://www.patreon.com/Widdershins

  • Points to Harry for solid concussion-preventing reflexes.

    • Heylir

“It was better than the giraffe”. (c) Sorry. :)

      Well done, Harry!

    • Emily

Mal has enough trouble with headaches as it is – he really doesn’t need a concussion too!

  • Corhianne

QC didn’t update for me yesterday, so I’m only just now coming to say–I recognized Kel’s art, but when I got to Jeph’s note and saw you credited too I had to come /applaud!
