  • RedcoatJonjo

Knew her back in the good old days, I did.

  • Sir_Krackalot

Huh. Who would’ve thought that it’d be Florrie’s Wrath that would bring the end?

    • AJ

      Well, Envy, for one.

    • Frances Ahlborn

-raises her hand- everyone has a temper, some just have longer fuses than most. But when THEY blow, hot damn!

    • Ganurath

There’s still the possibility she’d smother her anger with Wolfe’s help and accidentally summon Lust instead.

      • Digid

I laugh what Envy ends up with is something half-Lust & half-Wrath, namely Jealousy

  • Bother, I was hoping Mr Envy wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation to monologue and explain the plot. Guess we’ll just have to wait a little longer to find out the big picture.

    • Marvelous TK

See, expecting Envy to share his knowledge includes… expecting Envy to share. I think you see where you went wrong here.

    • Frances Ahlborn

Guessing Grandma Barber somehow cast out/banned/something like that the seven deadlies and they can’t be released without the presence of her blood. Which, unfortunately, can be interpreted to mean “progeny”, so any Barber sis will do when unleashing them.

      • szbnahl

But there wasn’t a Barber around when Voss summoned Envy. Unless Edmund was on holiday in the Himalayas at the time.

        • svartalf

It’s probably sufficient to release *ALL* of them.

      • I think we get Grandma (and Grandad’s) back story in the next exciting episode if the Patreon sketches are any guide.

      • deebles

Or Wrath itself is somehow locked up within the Barber blood.

  • GristleMcNerd

…did you just quote (well, paraphrase) Mr B. Natural?

    • If I did, would it give you the mood of a happy king?

      • GristleMcNerd

It might even awaken the spirit of music inside me.

        • Not my favourite short (not while Robot Rumpus and The Chicken of Tomorrow exist) but still a very.. memorable one.

          • GristleMcNerd

Just so long as our heroes don’t start decapitating their enemies and hanging their heads over the garage door.

  • Jer

Envy – “They never told you what happened to your grandmother”

Florence – “They told me enough ! They told me you killed her !”

Envy – “No Florence, I am your gran !”

    • Sanjay Merchant

      Florence – “That’s not true! THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE!”

Wolfe – “Ja, actually. How do a spirit and a human…?”

      • Timni16

Envy – “Why are y’all actually believing me?”
Florence – “How do you even fall for that, dude”
Wolfe – “What? But the spirit said…”

  • sal

    Envy used Howl!
    Envy’s Attack rose!

  • Sanjay Merchant

I hope that Wolfe’s compassion gets summoned by accident. Granted, doesn’t look that way, what with the summoning circle going all red and orange, but it would still be nice.

    • AJ

You might have to invoke a particular spirit in order to get it properly. You might get a compassion malform with Wolfe just standing there…
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! It’s like “What do I do?” and Ben runs up and says, “HUG THAT GREEN GUY!” And then Envy is smothered to death by hug.

    • Apvogt

Wrath:*appears in billowing, evil looking cloud*”Muahahahahahaaaaa, I’m here”
Wolfe: “Well hello there Mr.Wrath, such a lovely evening isn’t it. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Wrath:”AAAAAAHHHHHHH, THE NICENESS AND COMPASSION COMING FROM THIS MORTAL IS TOO MUCH, I’M MELTING I’M MELTING.”

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

Oh crap he’s about to shoot Wolfe to send Florence into a rage, isn’t he ?

    • AJ

Fishfingers. Shush before he (or Murphy) hears you!

    • Morgothy

I had that though too! But if that’s the plan, Wolfe’s not going to really be shot, I think. Either Voss will manage to claw back enough control to stop it (seems unlikely, but possible, given he’ll quite possibly do SOMETHING redemptive at some point) or Mal and Ben will crash into the scene to save them. Or.. something else I had completely not anticipated!

      • Lleyn

Or Envy will completely miss Wolfe because Voss was such a poor shot *g*

  • AJ

May I just say how much I love Voss’s body language switch since his possession? He was always rather loom-ish and hunch-inclined but it always looked sloppy, while now it looks deliberately menacing.

  • slim kittens

    Bad fox! Scat!

    • Euodiachloris

Nope; that’s not about to get this fox clattering into the bins and away. :P

  • Crap crap crap they’re standing in a circle GET OUT OF THE CIRCLE CRAAAAP

    • David Argall

There is a guy with a gun who wants you to stay inside the circle, and while they may not know this is a revolver, they would know that being the first to move could have negative consequences for their lifespans. Running may still be the best option, but all sorts of things might happen if they wait.

      • None of that disputes my point that they REALLY REALLY REALLY SUPER NEED TO GET OUT OF THAT CIRCLE ASAP
The fact that it’s not exactly convenient at the moment is irrelevant.

        • David Argall

No, it’s quite relevant. Staying is quite possibly wrong, but right now they can’t be sure that leaving will be better. While one can hardly expect well of envy or the general circumstances, staying might not prove fatal, while leaving could be.

Envy could be planning something merely humiliating or embarrassing. A faint hope to be sure, but they have no proof there is no hope. They would be betting their lives on the outcome, and even with great fear, they face uncertainty over which choice has a 99% chance of dying and which has a 98%.

          • I dunno, for the fact that their staying is part of the bad guy’s plans and is resulting in the summoning of Wrath, I think they really need to go, whether or not going is actually a viable option at this point. XD; It was more an illustration of the slow, terrible dawning realization that they are in fact standing inside a circle, anyway. A general scream of the universe being like, “OH CRAP THIS IS BAD”

  • Michael Brewer

Huh. Either someone is going to break the summoning here in just a second or we’ll only have Lust left. Though, now I’m wondering what happens if someone were to break that stone of Envy’s?

  • Sessine

Envy originally meant to use Nicola, who spends quite a lot of the time being wrathful. One might even say it’s her besetting sin. Wrath is rare for Florrie. She’s sunny-tempered by nature. Will she be able to resist Envy’s fanning the flame long enough to spoil the summoning? Granted, even a hint of taunting about her grandmother has made her furious, so maybe not. But she understands quite well what’s at stake, and she IS a Barber.

Of course, I’m reminded that Gluttony was routed by summoning Nora’s towering Courage, a strong but well-hidden trait. So maybe Florrie’s Wrath will be even bigger than Nicola’s would have been!

Story symmetry suggests that Wrath will get summoned here. Still, the fact that it comes from Florrie instead of Nicola might be the key to saving people from that gunpowder.

    • Morgothy

Good points about their respective wrathfulness. Correct me if I’m wrong though but wasn’t Florrie the original target, considering she’s the one who was invited to the party initially? I’m guessing either of them could provide at least a ‘spark’. Particularly if envy is intending to trigger the rage by hurting other people.

      • AJ

Kate said herself on a couple of previous comics that Envy put out effort to get Florrie to come, and then Nicola came along too by accident.

  • HUNRonin

    Wait what.

  • Rulebook Lawyer

What? No long ‘e-vil’ monologue along the lines of, “Since you are about to //insert result here//, why not tell you the whole plot.”
Perhaps this is like back in the 80’s, when the bad guys would win… duh duh duhhhhhhh

  • Missy_Z

The second to last word bubble for Envy… are there to O’s? It either says Oour or Nour, I can’t tell. Is that intentional?

    • Sanjay Merchant

      I thought it said “Your”.

      • Missy_Z

Ah I see! The leading letter made it hard to read, but I can see it now.

  • Iituem

Envy wears that skin better than Voss ever did.

    • AJ

[Any name here] [appropriately verbs] [any activity here] better than Voss ever did. Poor Voss.

  • Qwefg Lockheart

A link to wrath of course young girl

  • Sonja

    Oh-oh!

Got my books + extras this week! They’re sooo great, I’m absolutely happy. Big thank you from Germany to Kate!

    • Hooray! Love hearing that things are arriving safe!

      • Sonja

        They did!

By the way, the recipe cards are great and I especially love how Ethan is imitating Gladys on his card. ^^

A little question, I noticed a script change on this page:
        http://www.widdershinscomic.com/wdshn/september-13th-2013/
The last panel is a little different in the book (at least I noticed it in this panel, didn’t check the other ones yet…).
Do you often change texts when the comic is printed?

        • Just little changes, yeah. There’s a couple of art tweaks as well, places where I corrected proportions, poses, facial expressions, etc!

          • Sonja

Thanks for the answer! Now I have to look more precisely, I’m curious! ^^

  • Alex Simpson

I’m hoping Anger is more “tempered steel” then “burning fury” otherwise are plucky… variably aged heroes are going to be in some trouble.

  • Alasni

A spark of anger… oh dear he’s bringing wrath to the party isn’t he.

  • Wrath. All aboard the hype train.

  • The Wing

    That last panel is… nightmarish… D:

  • Silly Zealot

Huh.. I thought it was her father who actually made the unholy pact with him being a famous adventurer who is mentioned several times in the story, and all.

  • Silly Zealot

    RAGE SMASH!!!!
