Oh, don’t you start crying, or we’ll all be off crying.

Hey, an anthology I’m part of is being Kickstarted right now! It’s another fairy tales book, this time African instead of Europeon tales, and it’s got some amazing names attached, go have a look!

Support the comic, buy some neat swag!

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

Oh, so she DID send the book before. The goes my theory :D

  • Pirate_Prince_Navarion

    Great, now I’m crying. ;-(

  • Natalie

I did tear up a bit actually :O

    • Weird Oregonian

It’s making me lose dignity but it’s worth the heartwarming.

    • T T

      So did I

    • Apparently I’m the only one here who didn’t. Does that make me less of a good person?

      • Sanjay Merchant

        It’s a cute scene, but I can’t say I found it tear-worthy, per se.

        • AndromedaRage

I shed a tear mostly because I love cooking and baking for my friends and family. And i enjoy teaching and cooking with them! So the whole sentiment of bringing people together kinda hit home for me.

  • Me-me

    She’s 19? She looks mid-20s.

Crap, no-one tell her I said that.

    • David Argall

She probably should be 25 or so, or the book was a gift several year earlier. Alexa should not have gone from this basic book to a serious contestant in cooking contests in under 4 years. We can probably get by by saying it was more of a graduation gift of a family treasure, and she had been learning out of it for several years before it being given to her. But she should be a few years older.

      • Jota

Do we know that she’s *not* older? Is there any evidence that she actually came from 2013?

      • billydaking

You’re assuming that Alexia started seriously cooking when she got the cookbook, because its a “basic book”. I seriously doubt that. Most dedicated cooks and chiefs start a lot younger. Alexia probably got the cookbook on her 16th birthday because its a special birthday, thus a special gift. And a family cookbook–even if a published cookbook “with a lot of changes”–is a special gift, because she’s a good enough cook at that point to be trusted with the family recipes.

Edit: Also, in the previous strip, Alexia said that she learned everything she knew about cooking from her mother, who learned everything she knew about cooking from Gram. It’s obvious that Alexia’s family takes cooking very seriously, and that she learned as she grew up, to be given the book that started it all for them when she turned 16.

        • This exactly! She’d been baking for years before she was “formally” given the book.

Officially my favorite page of Widdershins.

  • Tempus Vernum

    Quick! get an autograph!

  • People really don’t use “bakery” as a synonym for “baking” often enough

  • gallohalt

reminds me of the ending to the doctor who episode “vincent and the doctor” such a good ending

  • awhorl

These people are magic. They learn FAST. You don’t have to be born in Widdershins to be capable of magic.

I am very much enjoying this storyline. BTW, the dancing women and the ugly guys (uglier than me, even) for those fifty-state ads never got me to download Adblock, but those stupid ads for “Twelve must-see photos of Miley Cyrus!” and “Hand sanitizer can kill you!” finally found my breaking point.

Of course, I’ve whitelisted this site. And I know you won’t succumb to Greed. :D

    • Very kind of you :) And I don’t blame you for the adblock, there are some pretty nasty ads out there. I try my best to knock the really bad ones off this site, at least, but it’s very much like playing Whack A Mole.

      • Tikatu

I’ve disabled AdBlockPlus for this site, but I still don’t see any ads. Just your message. I don’t know what to do beyond that.

        • Maybe it takes a while to kick in? Is it the Chrome one?

          Thanks either way :)

  • Afrodiseum

I’m not gonna cry, I’m not gonna cry, I’m not gonna cry…

    • Mujaki

They are not tears, it’s just condensed steam from all the heart-warming going on.

  • NamelessCenturion

Oh man…. I cannot believe I’m getting sniffles over the baking story…… I can’t wait to get back into the magical adventure stuff. This is still fun though.

  • SaberRoy

This is still my favorite page and Rosie my favorite character (or at least Minor character, though she’s high up for all characters as well). It’s just so heartwarming. I recognize that it’s really unlikely that Rosie will ever come back, but I do miss her. Sometimes I wonder if she may have still been alive when Alexa gets back and that the two got the chance to meet up once more, I like to think so.
