Numpty.

Hey, an anthology I’m part of is being Kickstarted right now! It’s another fairy tales book, this time African instead of Europeon tales, and it’s got some amazing names attached, go have a look!

Support the comic, buy some neat swag!

Wow, when I thought it was an entirely separate building, I was more right than I knew! :-P

  • robot_clone

hmmm, another person who uses numpty. i thought that was a fairly regional word, as i haven’t heard it in common usage outside of (east coast) Australia. interesting to see its made it to England (or vice versa)

    • Mirth

Numpty has been in the UK for donkeys. Think we used it around the same time.

    • Ivresse

You’d be surprised how common Numpty is used these days.
It’s actually originally a Scottish word which evolved from the obsolete term ‘numps’. It’s not surprising then that it was Scotland’s favourite word in 2007 based on an ICAN word survey.

The name of the restaurant is bigger clue than I expected!

  • Sanjay Merchant

I’m suddenly imagining that Ryan did decide to wait for him and was left hanging because of the spell. And that’s a very sad thought.

Perhaps this will be one of the time-travel stories where you return at the same moment as when you left

      • Sanjay Merchant

I guess that depends on just how time travel works in this instance. If Ryan and Ethan had, the previous day, looked up records about Alexa King would they or would they not record that she mysteriously vanished during a baking competition in 2013?

(Also, it just occurred to me that it seems no one was facing her when she was abducted because they were all looking at Lucas.)

  • chaosvii

Yeah I’d be a major curmudgeon too if that’s the last conversation I had before I ended up making food FOREVER.

  • Am I the only one thinking that perhaps Ethan isn’t entirely wrong to put his dream of being a top chef ahead of personal relationships? And if Ryan really loved his husband he should be a bit more supportive and understanding. Of course there’ll be a lot of history between them that we haven’t seen…

And can you use the word ‘husband’ in a single sex marriage?

    • Sanjay Merchant

It’s pretty routine for same sex couples to refer to each other as “my husband” or “my wife”, yes.

As for being supportive, well, that cuts both ways. I’m not saying it’s wrong for Ethan to prioritize his career over his relationship with Ryan, but it’s not fair to insist that Ryan’s in the wrong for not just standing by and playing the long-suffering spouse. Assuming they did/do/would have break/broken up over this, I’d honestly regard it as an issue where neither one was at fault per se, they just had incompatible relationship needs. It sucks, but it happens.

your millage may vary. folks are folks, but each situation will have its own “correct” solution.

  • Okay, question: How is the hotel still operational? When, and how, exactly did someone step in and buy it, and how did they not end up trapped there like the inspectors and the mayor?

    • Sanjay Merchant

I would speculate that, to any outside observer watching the hotel from across the street, the spell only appeared to flash for a brief moment, after which the building seemed much as it had before, except that everyone inside had mysteriously vanished.

As for why someone would buy a hotel after such an incident, maybe they didn’t until the 1920’s. Hence the renovations.

Congrats on reaching 300 comics, by the way! (At least that’s what Comic Rocket says.)

    • Ah! Looks like three of those pages were sketches though, so we’re close but not quite! Thanks for letting me know, had honestly not noticed!

Assuming that there is anything to my idea that victims captured by the Sin have to have sinned in some way, that resume may be seriously padded.
