  • Heh, I like this guy already.

    • Harry seems only moderately impressed. I like the way she’s spinning his beard on her finger.

This might be some totally unnecessary nitpicking, but would they have referred to folks from that continent as “Asians” back in the 1830s? It just looks a bit weird to me.

    • Not really, but a lot of the words that would have been used are… Uncomfortable, to say the least! I’m aware I’m trying to have my cake and eat it by having a Victorian setting with nonwhite people in it, but yeah.

      • Oarboar

I tell myself, “Hey, wait! Anachronism abounds!” And then I remember, heck, this is a fantasy anyhow. I’m enjoying the story. Carry on.

There were plenty of people of Asian origin in London in the 19th century as well as the 20th century.

        • Oh yeah, I know. Heck, no-one seems to mind the Indian guy in the comic yet either! There’s also a world-based reason for England having a little more immigration that it did in reality, which I finally get to address in this story :)

Asian was the formal expression but I think the common ones were ‘Orientals’ or ‘Chinamen’.

      • For obvious reasons, these were terms I didn’t want to use.

        • Guest

Of course, I can understand that.

      • Silly Zealot

I believe the formal expression that anthropologists used is “Mongoloid race”, due to its assumed origins in what is now Mongolia.
We all know why that term isn’t used anymore, however. Cigar?

Will we be getting a flashback to Sid and Tim’s childhoods, where Tim looks like a 1930’s Shortround?

  • I see a potentially imminent love triangle here. XD

  • Violet

Oh, you and your charming gentleman characters! <3

  • Some Surrey Kid
