I don’t need friends!!! I’ve got KNIVES!!!

Removed another ad from the bottom of the site thanks to Patreon backers! I’d love to go completely ad-free, take a look at the Patreon page and see if you fancy jumping in and getting some extra Widdershins sketches too!

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

    Good on you, Dominik.

  • Elliot Schmidt

I’m proud of Dominik, but I’ll be prouder if, at the end of this and Wolfe doesn’t escape Envy with as much ease (for a given value of ease) as Dominik did, he still doesn’t strut like a peacock even though he will have finally bested Wolfe at something.

    • Heylir

“Some of us were doing the right thing from the start”, as Harriet said to Verity once. I hope Voss will remember the difference.

  • Haven

    Voss Dies At The End

    • Rulebook Lawyer

And have to have that heroic “NOOOOOOOooooooo….”

    • Ganurath

      As the Mystics saw.

  • What if Envy runs out of knives?

    • Futile.

      • Darkoneko Hellsing

        Wryyyyyyyy ?

  • Nimm

I leave for a couple months and then come back to this?!?
    Nnnnooooooee Voss! Wolfe!! My heart!!!
    Webcomic is so good!

  • Disloyal Subject

I’ve been waiting for that. Envy’s frustration is as satisfying as I’d hoped.

    • Anthony Placek

it really is. and i’m happy to see this character growth and development.

  • Heylir

The third panel is… is… I just can’t describe it. Voss’ words, his gesture and general posture, Wolfe’s expression… wow. Just wow.

  • Dawww dat speech gave me feels tho!

  • Lee Man Feng Michael

Not related to this comic, but something just occurred to me about Ben. Not sure if this might have been suggested before, but i was thinking if his low magic certification (third class?) has to do with emotion control. My reasoning as far as i remember, Ben has only been shown summoning Sloth, which was followed with not bothering (?) to follow up on that. Along with how he is almost immediately influenced by Wrath and Envy, it seems to me that he struggles with emotions, which appears to be an influential part of magic.
Please correct me if I made a mistake.

  • Nightsbridge

Hahah, because we all know Mad Dummy’s knive(s) served them well in the end, right? pfff

  • John

OK Verity, time to make yourself a fox fur muffler.

  • DragonBlood87

Aw. I was hoping that Voss would feign considering the offer to get close to Wolfe, then try to cut the strings.

    • Typo Police

Whereas I was worried he might try cutting the strings without feigning, at which point Envy would parry Voss’s strike with Wolfe’s body.
      So colour me relieved.

    • Heylir

I doubt these strings are “cutable” with material blades, but if they are then Vee with a saw would be very useful.

  • Frankie D.

Guns for show, knives for a pro.

  • threadweaver

Would be a great time to learn that Voss is remarkably talented in surviving gut wounds.

  • Brother Nightmare

Envy, you’re losing it… on so many levels.

  • Sarah Hardister

What did I tell you! WHAT DID I TELL YOU! She’s going to kill Voss! I knew it!!!

  • Catbus is cool

I just caught up in archive trawling… why do i feel like Voss is going to sacrifice himself somehow?

  • Rachel McGonagill

Good on Voss! I suppose it’s inevitable that he’ll die now.

  • MoeLane

Voss, the smartest, bravest, MOST HEROIC thing you can do right now is run away, preferably to somewhere that’s hard to reach with a spotlight.

  • Yes, but is it one of those tragedies that has an average of 5.2 atrocities per act?

  • AJ

Okay, but I’m with Envy though. That speech was REALLY cheesy, Voss. Really. Cheesy.

It’s a good thing you look fine in that coat.

    • Ocean Burning.

Maybe it came across better in German… you know, the sort of thing that gets lost in translation : )

      • AJ

You can give Voss the benefit of the doubt all you want to… ;)

        • Ocean Burning.

I guess I’ll have to, since I can remember almost none of my high school German : P

    • Heylir

Well, it seems speech-making is another talent Voss lacks. )

I like its last line, though. On the side, it made me think that Voss could die right now and that it would be shame.

  • Nicholas Whipple

    Somebody is jelly…

It’s Envy. Envy is jelly of Voss’s control over his own story.

  • Ocean Burning.

Okay, maybe I’m a worrier, but… I feel like what just happened should have weakened Envy a lot. What’s happening with Mal and Harry? Is it just me or have they been, like, conspicuously absent from the storyline ever since they started dealing with Envy? ???

    • CountSessine

That’s… actually, it seems to me like good news. If there were complications at their end, I think we’d have been seeing their problems interleaved with this theatre story, to ratchet up the tension.

In the absence of that, I expect that at the moment they are only doing what they did last time… drawing the circle and waiting for Envy to be weakened. No need to break this side of the story to tell us that. Soon, though! My guess is, it’ll be when the other spotlight is broken.

      • Ocean Burning.

        I really hope you’re right…

  • Pyre

Faith in Voss rewarded (for both Wolfe and myself): Good on you, Voss.

  • Jourell

Excellent writing for both Wolfe and Voss through their arc by the way.
Its always good to see previously villainous or simply “asshole” people
growing and changing in a believable way. Also congratulations on being
able to create a purely good character that is also genuinely likeable.
It’s so hard to create characters that don’t come off as annoying or
holier-than-thou. Though Wolfe is definitely in Marty Stu territory,
it’s not “in your face” and we can’t help but forgive him, thus it’s
easy to believe that even his enemies can come to like him and want to
    become better through his example.
