(The five stand in the entrance to the cave as the tide begins to rush in around their ankles.)

Macavarty: Perfect.
Macavarty: If you’ll pardon the intrusion, girle..

Macavarty: (rummaging in Harry’s bag and retrieving her set of handcuffs) Ah-hah!
Macavarty: Reckoned you looked like the type to have these.

Macavarty: I wish I had more time to properly thank you! If you hadn’t worked out where to go, I’d never have found the place!

(With the aid of his thugs, he cuffs Sid and Harry together with the connecting chain hooked behind a high column of rock so that they are held in place, Harry’s feet dangling a foot or so above the floor.)

Macavarty: And now I don’t even need the mark, that foul-looking statue is much more expensive!

Macavarty: (checking his pocket watch) But as they say, time and tide wait for no man..

Macavarty: ..and I’d say you’ve got a good half hour til it catches up with you.

Macavarty: Ta-ra!

good eye, dude! now i suspect komi of being a huge fan of bondage. or at least of handcuffs – it’s a theme!

things always get worse before they get better, or so the saying goes. in this case, this is the ‘worse’ and the better is, that the fate to befall the bearer of the statue may now belong to mister smug. i gather that what was spoken inside the magic force field thingie was not heard outside of it, and vice versa, or there’d have been no need to exit it momentarily to consult with harry.

It was heard by Macavity- he remarked on the “what a sense of humor on that thing”.  While he’s “clever”, he doesn’t strike me as the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to these sorts of things.  The doom’s tied to the statue, not the mark.  I suspect greed’s actually going to be pleasantly surprised that his little thiefking actually didn’t go with the plan and he’s more than willing to hand over the mark to him now that the doom ended up in someone else’s lap- the someone that forced his hand to the bad path to begin with.

          very keen – i agree!

  • Thayne Bohman

Wait… isn’t he just going to magically steal the key to the handcuffs again?  I foresee no problems escaping.  Unless he doesn’t realize he has the key.  In which case, the water will rise and he’ll find the key (or she’ll suggest it) at the last second, and then they’ll get out.

Also, hanging by a handcuff on your wrist has really got to hurt.

I’m thinking that this might be the case here.  Chekov’s Gun, you know…  >:-D

Or Chekov’s Handcuff Key, as the case may be :)

I do so dislike the smug villain. So tiresome. Now our heroes not only have to deal with the curse of Greed, but with the rising water, as well.

I have to say I like the result of Harry being so much shorter than dear ole Lancelot, though. :p

Oh, I suspect he’s getting his…  The statue is probably going to be his demise…price of greed, you know.

The pacing on this plot rocks. I enjoyed everything so far, and I’m .so. looking forward to more.

Gotta love panel 6. She’s less worried about a hand slipping out of its socket than the indignity of the whole episode.

  • Jack Of Clubs

He just broke rule 125 of the Evil Overlord list. Also rules 4 and 6. (Probably 12 as well… just saying.)

    • SpiralingVortices

He did it earlier too, when he had Harry and Malik at the theatre. He did the whole “any last requests” bit.

  • toasthaste

Haha, I just noticed that poor Harry is dangling by her wrist here. The pain of being a shorty.
