Great use of a colour palette to tell a story

  • Ooh! Sound Effects!

  • Feel the power of cotton candy!

    • Kenneth Graves

By the power of cotton candy, I have the power of spun sugar!

  • CFF

Pretty effective. I wonder if Wolfe feels any less calm and serene now, considering that it was ‘taken’ from him and redirected? I’d think not, since I can’t imagine it’s a limited resource, but I’m still curious.

    • Kaunisenkeli

I was just wondering the same thing. Is he an endless fountain of serenity? Or will this have some unknown (if necessary) consequences?

      • Take away his calm, he’s still great to everybody, but super is excited while doing so

        • CFF

Hyper Wolfe! I’d almost feel sorry for Mal and Ben.

          • Euodiachloris

Hyperactive Wolfe… violin string shortage incoming. <_<

        • svartalf

Just like the Valor wasn’t lost in the summoning against Gluttony, I strongly suspect that Wolfe’s not any different here.

  • hariman

    Theoretical grasp of magic? Zilch.

Instinctive grasp of magic? LOTS of it.

    • ThisCat

      …literal grasp of magic?

      • TachyonCode

        Tangible amounts.

        • Rulebook Lawyer

          But not intangible.

  • pingo1387

Is . . . Voss gonna be okay? He’s just kinda lying there.

    • Rulebook Lawyer

He is just mostly dead… oh wait, seems he is get better.

      • dh

“Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much! It just so happens that your friend here is only *mostly* dead. There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead
is slightly *alive.* With all dead, well, with all dead there’s usually only one thing you can do . . . Go through his clothes and look for loose change.”

    • Flakes

He’ll live, but he may never play the mandolin again :(

    • svartalf

After being rid of Invidia as he was, you’d lie there too…wanting it to all just go away… (That *HAD* to hurt.)

  • kuku

Mal don’t need no stinkin’ Latin incantations. He just needs to throw some pastel around.

I love him scratching his head afterwards.

    • svartalf

He’s trying to figure out, just how in the H*LL he just managed that unsummon- which is what he just did.

    • Sanjay Merchant

      He don’t need no education?

      • He don’t need no thaum control

        • JWLM

No dark star chasm in the class room

          • DLKmusic

            TEACHER! Leave those vials alone!

  • Twirls

oh no I caught up, knew I should have taken a break after each story.
Love this, love the characterizations and the world-building and the color themes just like… well done dude.

  • AquaBat

    Finally, a happy ending!

    • Sonja

I like these ones, but I’m looking forward to more Sid, too. ^^

(Sorry, Harry, more of you, too.)

  • Nightsbridge

I love the way that mal is just scratching his head in the last panel.

  • Nonesuch

Rage in the fifth panel: “Whut?”

XD I love that facial expression on it!

  • HUNRonin

    Mal: The Last(first?) Emotionbender.

  • Greenghost

    That was awesome!
Even though I know very little of the series or if any one else will get this but I think The Doctor would be proud of Mal.

  • Aviana

  • Wrath may have been desummoned but he’s broken out of his chains. I’m sure there won’t be any long term consequences…

    • svartalf

Based on what Mal did, while there’s possible ramifications…but Wrath’s tied up now… I especially liked the dumbstruck/gobsmacked look on Wrath when the unsummon came.

      • Apvogt

Panel 5 (or background): wait wat

        • Euodiachloris

Or, too surprised for articulation: “uh eh?” ;)

          • svartalf

It was a clear…”Wait…what?! NO! NO! NO!” Wrath didn’t expect what happened. In the slightest.

  • Stephen Cornell

“He’s gone where the Goblins go, below, below, below”…

    • Disloyal Subject

Down, down to Goblin-Town; YO-HO, MY LADS!

  • Rulebook Lawyer

I don’t think that was just any scarf, but the BiOmAtRiX…

  • svartalf

Well, we now understand just what Ben was trying to get at with the beginning of this story. If Mal had a better grasp of the Theoreticals and the Literals of Magic, he’d be a stunningly capable Wizard because he exists in both worlds at the price of the “problem” he has with the end result. The Deadly was clearly shellshocked and gobsmacked before the completion of the unsummon- he didn’t expect that outcome. Not. At. All.

  • =Tamar

I wonder what effect that had on Voss. He was closest to it.

  • Apvogt

    To sum things up:

  • billydaking

Nice Mal-like “huh” from Mal in the first panel (see Firefly for what I’m talkin’ ’bout)

  • Yay Mal!
He saved the day and neither his coat nor cravat were destroyed in the process!

  • CorvusCornix

    The best of scarfs.

  • Bendgo

I hope that by pulling that magic away from Wolfe O’Malley did not just steal his power the way Voss was doing it with his Envy spirit. Because it appears a possibility. Magical auras going from one person to another stripped the power away! That would be awful! Poor Wolfe!

    • DLKmusic

I rather doubt it. If this Paradigm is making any sense with it’s consistancy, what O’Malley sees are the emotions that exude from a person, not the inner person itself. Plus, the funny thing about an emotion like confidence is that it feeds off of success, which is exactly what we are seeing here. I would think that if anything, this would Strengthen Wolfe’s resolve, and bolster his calm and serenity.

      I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am :)

      • svartalf

I suspect it’ll be like what happened in the Gluttony segment. If anything, the Valor, the boldness and bravery increased in the source for the summon.

  • Sonja

Bound by Wolfe’s serenity. So great. Do we already have a Wolfe fan club? I’m in! :-)
    Also, interesting ability, Mal.

  • Welp! That was appropriately anticlamactic! What else would you expect from these guys, after all. I highly approve, defeat by pretty pink and blue ribbons is a fitting way for Wrath to go. ^^

  • DLKmusic

Am I the only one that sees a shocking similarity to wrath’s unsummon and a balloon that’s losing helium?

That’s brilliant, and on multiple levels! Well done!

  • Terry

…Did that do anything to Wolfe?

  • slim kittens

Panel 5: Wrath’s eye is an RAF rondel.

  • Meredith Markham

    Yay! GO Mal!

  • Elizabeth Jones

Rage looks a combination of startled, confused, and “oh mommy.”

  • This guy

    ‘Your a wizard, Mally.’
