    Who brought the snacks?

    • Sanjay Merchant

Doesn’t matter. With Gluttony around there will never be enough.

      • SpiralingVortices

And Greed will always complain about the expense.

        • Tsapki

And Sloth won’t even eat theirs, just take a nap instead.

          • DZ

While Pride tries to get everyone’s attention.

            • JWLM

Pride makes the best snacks. They don’t care at all about everyone’s attention, they make the best snacks. Obviously, they make the best and prettiest and most wonderful snacks.

        • Phlebas

Wrath says you were supposed to bring them.
          I’d run.

      • rainycity1

And Envy will always think the other person got the bigger piece…

  • Trey Glover
    • I was wondering if anyone would get that.

  • Morpheus Tyler

Have we seen Luxuria’s “true form” yet? This is a thing I would very much like to see.

  • ThisCat

    Ooooh dear.

  • Ha! Sloth is a walrus

  • Ganurath

Wouldn’t Greed still be bound to the Mark of Thieves right now?

    Also, shouldn’t Envy be formless?

    • SpiralingVortices

Perhaps they can be present in multiple places? I mean, it’s not like other impulses have been only ever bound to one thing (trains and impatience, bread and hunger, etc).

Another theory is that greed is bound to the thieves mark, but isn’t completely trapped in it – a portion of its self is still there.

      • The former! There is much more human greed than one bracelet can hold, unfortunately.

    • warun

Well, that’s assuming there’s a single coherent incarnation of any given spirit that is wholly summoned when called, particularly the big ones like the Deadlies. It could be like a far grander, almost godlike thing, sending a bit of itself out to answer a summons but never the whole of it capable of being called and bound.

Or it might be more proper to say the Mark was bound to Greed than Greed to the Mark. That its nature made it a powerful conduit for the summons such that Greed is bidden to answer when called, but by no means is Greed trapped within it. Rather it is, metaphorically speaking, trapped within Greed.

      • Iituem

Asked the author about this over twitter. You can summon multiple incarnations of a spirit, based off the summoner. So you can summon happiness, even though the Purple Hippo is still (hopefully) hanging around, it just will be a spirit based off your own idiosyncrasies. That said, one wonders if the Deadlies have more… universal forms than ordinary malforms do.

  • Jordan Hiller

    Oh dear… This isn’t good.

    • Well, the world didn’t end. That much we know for sure.

  • Sanjay Merchant

I think Greed wants his parking validated.

  • ummm …eep?

  • Sophia

I wonder which other deadlies would have tried to summon the whole crew if given the chance? I can imagine the hilarity that would’ve ensued if Sloth was in Lusts position.

“Sorry, siblings, I’ll get on it right away! Just give me five more minutes”

    • Pride would. Like… It would want to be admired first, take over a town, etc, but it would totally love to be the one to say: “LOOK! LOOK WHAT I DID! MEEE! I FREED ALL OF YOU! YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR THANK YOUS IN THE FORM OF HUMAN WORSHIP. YESYES.” *preens like a Skeksis*

Also, Lust basically had centuries to figure out how he wanted to go about it, if I understand correctly.

    • Summoning sounds like work

  • Sophia

Also, I have just realised that I’ve been reading your comics all the way since Darken. Your art and storytelling have grown lots since then! What ever happened to that other comic that you did before Widdershins, I think it was something about a guy who could see the future and his friend was an invincible, erm, invisible spirit?

    • Thanks! The only comics I’ve done properly have been Darken and Widdershins, ‘fraid I can’t help you with that other one!

      • Sophia

Oh! Sorry, must have mistaken that for a different comic artist. Maybe it was the follow up comic to Lint? Nevermind :)

        • No worries! There’s so many neat webcomics out there right now, it’s understandable to get some mixed up!

  • Kaunisenkeli

I sincerely hope that whatever Isabelle does to save the day, Invidia and Superbia come out alright.

    • Superbia and wossname – Sloth’s token. Invidia?

      Not so much.

      Well, if Superbia wants her…

      • Kaunisenkeli

I know she isn’t the most pleasant person, but she and Superbia are cute together.

        • Right. That’s why i said “If Superbia wants to keep her” – as a pet, i guess.

    • Well ‘The Butler’/Greed is still around in 1834, although it’s surely no coincidence that Mr Cartwright Jr. ends up summoning greed to try and boost profits in the Hotel Gola, so there’s a good bet they’ll survive and turn up again – especially given their popularity with certain sections of the fan base.

      • Phil

The butler was Gluttony wasn’t he? Greed was the thief.

        • Doh! Of course the butler was gluttony not greed (avarice). I’m getting senile in my old age.

          • John

Given that the Gluttony story involved time travel and this one is a flash back, I’m still not sure if this happened before or after the Gluttony story arc from the butler’s perspective. There’s some logic to the idea that this is the moment that opened the door for all of the other chapters to occur which would make this first, but things are sufficiently wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey that I’m not sure that’s correct.

  • David Argall

I suppose next time we should learn why he is bothering to raise his competition. [In one way or another, each wants everything, which means any attempt to work together is going to be fragile at best, if not doomed before it starts.]

    • I’m sure Mr Luxuria will explain everything. He does, as Lord Barber says, like the sound of his own voice. My theory? Only together do they become a complete person.

      • MoeLane

        “…And together they form MORNINGSTAR!”

        • What, the far left wing newspaper? That would explain a lot.

          • MoeLane

…The UK has a newspaper named after Lucifer*? I am mildly surprised.

*Yes, I know, the scholarship is complex.

            • Oh you meant that Morning Star. Must admit I’d never made the connection, but it’s obvious now you’ve pointed it out. :-)

              • Iituem

Not to be confused with the -Daily- Star, or maybe just The Star, which are somewhat on the other end of the spectrum.

  • Columbine

Pride is glorious. That is all.

  • That’s the reward wallpaper for the Kickstarter sorted then.

    • Right? Nice striking image there, that’s for sure!

      • MoeLane

        Endorsed.

  • Dane 72

One of those situations, where a bat belt could come in handy

  • I think this was that thing that wasn’t supposed to happen. Just a feeling.

    • awhorl

Rather, Henry and Isabella get the Deadlies off the humans’ backs so that they can go home . . . um, well, not back to the guillotine, but back to something other than being Luxuria’s minions. Bad news is that the Deadlies go off looking for other subjects before they can be properly desummoned.

  • awhorl

I wonder whether Sloth is more irritated at getting awakened or ahem being cast in the role of a sex object. But that is one serious glare.

    • l33tninja

I think sloth is more like “I got up for this?”

  • Dshim

will there be a wallpaper with the last panel, just by itself?

  • Sanjay Merchant

You know, I always figured the shape of the spirit was dictated by the circumstances under which it was summoned. Wouldn’t have expected them to look like their earlier/later incarnations.

    • They’re similar, but not the same.

  • Turnip the Scintillating

Did you just birdemic at us
why would you do that I THOUGHT YOU LIKED US

  • Charmas

I didn’t expect gluttonly to be so slimy.

  • conor

The form of envy here reminds me of sharpey from page 74 of chapter 2. The sharp face, the ears, the three claws on each hand, and sharpey’s jagged tail seems like the slightly jagged outline of envy’s body. It makes me think sharpey is a lesser form of envy. Maybe a smidgen of ambition?

  • Sanjay Merchant

A sextuple summon? Pretty impressive, given that we’ve only ever seen spirits being summoned one at a time.

  • Hush

Luxuria:…Or, perhaps, it is the nature of my little ‘game’ that troubles you?
Henry: Sure ain’t any sympathy fir th’ devil.

  • Chris the Blue

Guessing their names, from left to right:
    Toothless
    Danny DeVityo
    Space Dandy
    Robin Williams
    Transmetal 2 Megatron
    That thing from Spirited Away.

How many did I get right?

  • Yes, but what’s puzzling me is the nature of their games

  • Graham Garrett

    OOOOOOOOOO…oh, right, bad.
