July 29th, 2016 – KICKSTARTER NOW LIVE! published on 44 Comments on July 29th, 2016 – KICKSTARTER NOW LIVE!

And with this super-happy page, I get to announce that the Kickstarter for Widdershins Volume Six: Find The Lady, is now live! Go and check it out, there’s books and pins and signed things, and a book-exclusive mini story about Henry and Izzy’s wedding, written by me and drawn by the incredible Taylor Robin!

Also, I am at MCM Manchester all this weekend, drop by Comic Village table CE11 to say hello!

  • Tikatu

Who does Harry know? Sid’s friend Tim? Her old nemesis? Who else have we met in this saga that might be of assistance?

    • Sir Edmund

I’m hoping we get to see Verity again :D

      • Disloyal Subject

        Same here.

    • Liz

Oh, I interpreted her line as “I’ll see who I can find [for me] to help,” rather than “I’ll see who I can find to help [us].” Your interpretation makes more sense.

    • szbnahl

If Henry and Isobel are still around, maybe … was he called Victor? Verity’s grandfather. That guy. Maybe he’s still around. Other than that, I guess there are probably hunters at the Guild and wizards at the University who’d rather not have the world taken over by the Deadlies. Can’t think of anyone specific, though.

    • CountSessine

She’s off to find someone – and it’s someone she doesn’t want to ask for help. It’s putting her in a really foul mood, but there’s no way around it. She knows this person is capable and can help…. She can’t NOT ask.

Yes, I’d say Verity fits very well.

      • Tsapki Perez

My original instinct was that her earlier attitude on finding her grandparents attacked is still carrying over on this, though you could well be onto something.

        • Tikatu

My thought was the same; she seems to be a slight favorite of Henry’s and vice versa with their shared love of hunting. But CountSessine does bring up a good point re: Verity. Hopefully Verity will help and *not* grandstand or try to take over. This is going to be difficult enough without her attempts at one-upmanship.

      • dana

In the previous panel, she was examining notes pinned to the wall in the basement. Perhaps she found something that’s contributing to her foul mood.

    • Alexa. Hrn. Too bad they don’t know each other.

      • Tikatu

Too bad Alexa won’t be born for over 100 years…

  • dana

Yay, O’Malley is back! And not freaking out! Which is actually a little odd, considering last time he was freaking out at a dead run.

    • Haven

Turns out he just needed a smoke break.

    • Sanjay Merchant

“If I don’t look directly at it, it can’t kill my brain.”

    • Winger

Well, the shock of the unexpected was a big part of it, I suspect; he’s had a little time to come to terms with things now. Sort of like having your past swing a frying pan into your face out of nowhere, and then coming back with a pack of frozen peas over your bruise to eyeball the offending kitchenware like ah yes, that is indeed the one that got me.

      • 703 Noemi

        I like analogies, too.

  • Let’s split the party. That’s always a good idea.

    • Sanjay Merchant

It worked out pretty well at Voss’s blast of a party, didn’t it?

    • MoeLane

Sometimes, it’s the only way to distract the GM. Six different stories, at once?

…And, yes, yes, I know: ‘laugh maniacally and kill them all.’ I wouldn’t pull that trick at a *convention* game. :)

      • JWLM

Nah, just possess one of them and send them back to sabotage the rest of the party. Much more fun to watch.

  • rainycity1

I REALLY wonder what Mal sees right now when he looks at Harry…

    • AJ

A ridiculously significant percentage of comments on this comic are, “I wonder what Mal sees when ______” :)

  • Yrael

Harry needs a hug. Preferably by a worried magician with a silly goatee

    • Maybe, but I would not recommend Mr Malik initiating unsolicited physical contact with Ms Harriet under normal circumstances, let alone when she is ‘fine’ and carrying a large gun.

  • Nightsbridge

Careful, Harry. Wrath is looking for some resonance.

  • AJ

This is off topic, but Ms. Ashwin, I want to tell you how good your structure is. In every comic I follow (with the exception of XKCD, but that obviously does not apply) I follow the cycle where I read daily, I eventually get confused, I read a few more pages, and then I throw my hands up in the air and archive-trawl in order to figure out what’s currently happening.

I never do that with Widdershins. It’s very satisfying.

    • Alex Hollins

Indeed, there are only a few comics I have that problem with, but Widdershins is the opposite, i once took a month off for reason, came back, and remembered instantly where we were because of how the next comic built.

  • MoeLane

    Hey, you’re funded! Congrats.

    • Thank you! Yes, that one came shockingly quickly!

      • Ayara012

Not just funded, but almost double the goal! That seems like quite the compliment for you, Kate!

        • Yes, I’m very grateful indeed!

      • Winger

Guess Henry’s charm breaks straight through the fourth wall.

        • Sanjay Merchant

I dunno, unbounded generosity feels more like a Wolfe thing.

      • Sanjay Merchant

It’s almost like you’ve been cultivating a devoted fan base for years now. ;-)

  • Sanjay Merchant

Given the mass-evacuation of malforms, I wonder if Sid will be able to conjure Curiosity at all. 0.0

  • And everyone has failed to notice that Mal came back . . .

  • Winger

Her eyes weren’t visible even once on this page, Sid, that’s classic Not Fine.

Bargaining with curiosity sounds like fun, though. It seems like it would be an easy spirit to entice, if perhaps not always so easy to satisfy.

  • Kyle Hamilton

Sure she’s “fine”, if by “fine” she means that backronym expansion of “f-cked up, insecure, neurotic and emotional”.

But no, she’s not fine by any normal application of the word.

  • Sapphire363

Mal is perfectly honest, he can see it easily, and just tells it like it is.

  • Tikatu

I don’t know if anyone has brought this up on another page but … Catherine asked that they keep whatever it was (corralling and desummoning the Deadlies) away from her farm and the kids. One problem with that: Acedia knows where they live.

(This may be why Harry is so grumpy, too. She read Acedia’s notes.)

  • Euodiachloris

Ben cracks me up. “Look, if even socially challenged me can read the situation…” xD

  • Phil

Ack, trying to decide whether to shell out £60 for the kickstarter and all the books so far, or wait for the kickstarter after this chapter that will include the whole collection… Hard decisions!

    • It’ll be two years til I’m done with this chapter rather than my usual 1, if that influences your choice! Either way, thanks for looking :)
Edit: Though I might end up doing a Part 1 and Part 2 book for this one, I really haven’t decided yet. Will probably ask people for their opinions on that one.

  • Valerie Kaplan

    Delayed typo catch on “curiosity”!
