Mrs King thinks trains are super-keen! Here is what anorak means if you’re not British enough or something.

Dunno about you but I’d play that game in that magazine.

Gonna be putting together a Kickstarter for Book 3 when I’ve got Darken Vol 1 shipped out, so look out for that!

Support the comic, buy some neat swag!

Am I getting my webcomics mixed? Dead.winter is on the link you’ve given today, and it was on the ad last page, but the magazine in TODAY’S comic is advertising Derelict judging by both name and little hazard visor on the protagonistperson.

    • Yeah, copy pasted the link and forgot to change it . Done it now!

      • Drakyn

Badass. Would totally play a Derelict game.
        “Press A to salvage.”
“Mash B to barely escape from horrifying danger at great cost to your future odds of survival.”
“Stare hollow-eyed at Start button to be so very, very, very, very, very alone in all the world.”

Just saw this comment and love it.

  • Fevley

Another Kickstarter! I’ve been saving my money to get all three books at once, will that be a choice tier?

  • Ella

wow, english never ceases to amaze me… anorak is something i would wear. :D
great webcomic, by the way (i also enjoyed darken!)

    • =Tamar

“Anorak” is used as a metaphor for the kind of person who used to wear one while out in the cold, observing trains, “collecting” them by recording the identifying numbers. It’s sort of like birdwatching.

      • Ella

        Aaaaaah, thanks, that helps. ;)

  • I hope that’s not an expensive mobile because its about to get zapped any time now.

  • cody demetro

Ohhhhh…I should have figured she had some barber blood in her…question is…which one (just curious)

  • Timni16

She seems to have some chill parents. And I wonder what is going on about those bullies. I know I would drop kick anyone bullying my brothers. In the FACE.

  • Wyvern

Is this story arc going to include product placement for other webcomics in every strip? Because that would be pretty funny.

  • BaronHaynes

Wait, this isn’t the future. That girl is reading a game magazine! ;p

  • I’m on her mother’s side.

  • Cooper

Why do I get the feeling something magical and horrible happened to those bullies?

  • somebloke

Knew about anorak thanks to Ready Player One. =)

  • wwlaos

I think trains are super-keen too, Mrs. King.

  • Afrodiseum

Sooo….anorak is to British English what otaku is to Japanese?

    • The Wing

      What does otaku mean?

      • Afrodiseum

Otaku is the Japanese term for fanatic. As in someone who obsessively collects China tea sets, or comic books, or things like that. There are people in Japan known as “train otaku”. They are such fans of trains of all types, they can tell you verbatim the specs and history of every train model in existence.

        • The Wing

Wow, are you Japanese? You know a lot of stuff! o.O

          • Afrodiseum

No, not Japanese. But I do have a passing interest in the culture. I learn a lot from Peter Payne. He’s a guy from San Diego who moved to Japan to teach university level English. He ended up getting married there and raising two kids. So, he decided to start an online store that sells Japanese cultural items and gifts called J-List. You can check out his Tumblr at But keep in mind, it’s rather NSFW.

            • The Wing

Um, NSFW stuff I’d rather miss out on. :P But that’s cool information anyway!

  • Ragashingo

Dad’s arm is coming in at a bit of an extreme angle in panel 4 isn’t it? It’s practically pointing at his chest. I can barely put my arm in that position much less hold a heavy clothes basket that way. (Yes, I did attempt it, for science!) :p

  • * cricket * cricket *

  • Mister Gray

Why jump to present day? Why not the 30s 40s or such I’d have loved a story in those eras. Also love your comics!

    • Plenty of time for plenty of things :)
