Only Wolfe can make ‘please carry my luggage’ a heartfelt moment.

Gonna be doing character Q&As on the week of the 20th March while I take some time to catch up on non-Widdershins work stuff and maybe even.. take a day off?! So if you have a question for a character, ask in the comments below or via my Tumblr ask box here.

  • Oh, wow.

Wolfe is almost too good a person to be allowed to exist…

    • Yes, but killing him is universally recognized as a war crime

      • Heylir

Edit: Sorry, my comment went astray.

    • Heylir

But nice enough to take alive into Heavens. )) No offense for Wolfe, I love him a lot.

    • reynard61

“Too Kawaii to live, too Sugoi to die.”

    • Alétheia

He is a beautiful cinnamon roll too good for this world, too pure.

      • Ocean Burning.

This is the best application of this description I’ve heard since my sister used it for Sir Galahad

    • Jota

Like the kind of person that you would only find in a story or a picture book?

  • Phlebas

Oh goodness. Wolfe’s thinking he might not make it?

    • Heylir

I rather think he just gives Voss a good excuse for leaving behind. ) And “heartfelt moment”, too, of course. Symbolic a bit, given the role of Wolfe’s violin in the narrative.

    • Alétheia

Not necessarily! It could just be that violins are even more breakable than humans, and Wolfe is running around a lot, so he doesn’t want it to get broken (or left behind, even). :)

  • Phil

“I have a very important job for you. Now just hold this and don’t move. Yes it is important, you are the Chief Instruments Officer. No of course I am not just trying to stop you getting in the way. Ok then you can have a badge.”

    • svartalf

And yes, there’s an aspect of that there too. Hang loose around here, watch over my Violin and I’ll be back when you’re more ready to help, etc. He saved the day, yes. He needs more growth if he’s going to be doing this sort of thing and is a risk out on the next ones…

  • Rulebook Lawyer

Foreshadowing … which can go in multiple ways.

  • Dshim

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

Aaah that’s so adorable aaaaaah *fellow musician sympathizes*

  • He’s not coming back, is he?

    • MoeLane

      Pretty much, yeah.

    • AJ

WHY? WHY would you SAY THAT?

*retreats into the corner to whimper*

    • svartalf

      You don’t know that.

    • svartalf

He’s not sure he is, though- so he’s making the right and appropriate plans all the same.

    • Shihchuan

Yeah this does feel awfully like the trope (warning : contains TV Tropes), personally I hope it isn’t though……

      • Maria Gerasimova

We saw tropes broken sometimes -

      • A deliberate use of the trope to plant a seed of doubt in our minds as to the effectiveness of Herr Wolfe’s plot armour to increase dramatic tension and make sure we don’t miss the next exciting episode!

    • Geoff

He’s also basically telling Voss that he wants to see him again, by giving him an errand that would keep him from slipping away.

    • Alétheia

Nooooooooo! Kate’s been good about subverting tropes so far, so she can subvert this one, too? Right?

  • Anime fan

    *Deathflags waving*

    • Haven

She’d never kill off the violin!

      • JWLM

It’s generally impossible to destroy legendary artifacts. They can be suppressed for a long time, but they will almost always turn up again eventually.

  • non_canon

This leads to another question for the Q&A. Where did Wolfe learn to play?

  • maeverin

  • svartalf

Ah, but it’s a **PRECIOUS** piece of luggage all the same, Kate. He just entrusted someone whom he still views as a friend in SPITE of all the “friend” did to him and caused (This chaos? He’s part of what brought it about…)- which is a massive vote of confidence and hammered home to said friend he still was viewed as one.

  • Nonesuch

    That is a magnificent gesture.
Not only will it remind Voss of the one time all those stolen powers brought him true joy, but he knows how singularly important this violin is to Wolfe, and that he is trusted…. and forgiven. :)

  • M. E. Gibbs

    • Ocean Burning.

Well, he himself was the one who said that if any of them came to harm, the others would be disappointed in him. And I believe that Wolfe is the sort of man who wouldn’t like to disappoint his good friends.

  • Brother Nightmare

No pressure mind you, but that instrument has been used to save the world from one of the seven deadlies already, so take good care of that future legendary relic, eh?

    • Tsapki

      It’s a +6 soothing implement for bards!

  • Rolan7

At last, after all these years, Voss finally acquires the one thing Envy couldn’t get him.
…Wolfe’s violin D: Wolfe no, how could you fall for that!?

  • JoseB

Question for miss Verity Cunningham: Were you afraid when you were in the box about to be sawed in two?

  • Emily

I refuse to believe that this is foreshadowing something ominous. It would go completely against the established tone of the comic – not a single person has been killed in the previous chapters, unless you count Ms. Fairbairn (and even that’s not certain, since they never found a body). Even when Grandpa Henry was shot, it wasn’t very long before we started seeing hints that he would be all right. If Kate wanted to turn things dark on us now, surely she wouldn’t do it so drastically.

    • Tsapki

Or maybe that’s what she wants you to think -malicious moustache twirl-

    • Phlebas

I’d tend to agree. I do think this looks like Wolfe allowing for the possibility that he might not survive what’s coming, but that doesn’t mean he won’t!

  • Emily

Is anyone else wondering whose voice is yelling about being on the clock in the next-to-last panel? My theory is Verity.

    • Ocean Burning.

Well, who else could it be?

  • CountSessine

I note that “Good luck!” is in English.

    • Rolan7

Huh, nice catch. I guess it’s a lot easier to know simple common phrases like that. Like “sayonara” or “gesundheit”.

  • billydaking

    Um….doesn’t Wolfe need the violin?

    Could come in handy again….

    • MoeLane

If it was still necessary, Wolfe wouldn’t be able to take it out of his inventory and give it to the NPC.

  • Istas

As a musician, that is not luggage. Wolfe is letting Voss look after his baby while he goes battle deadly sins. That is a pretty serious show of trust.

  • Nonesuch

    FOR THE Q&A:

To Wolfe: “Among the malform-busters, the Barbers and the people you’ve met while dealing with both, who is the most huggable?” ;)

To Voss: “Will you please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the way you’ve fought Envy and become a better person?”

To Wrath: “So how did it feel to be denied, just after you said you wouldn’t be anymore? Also, what is your response to this? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA~! XD”

  • See…acting, I mean, character development. :) I love how much is loaded in this scene. It shows so much with so little.

  • Chris E

Question for the Barber sisters: What other occupation(s) would you choose to pursue if you could not continue with your current one?
