Typical that he’d be the sort to hold a grudge.

I’m surprised honestly. I mean, the two who foiled him back in the day were right there at his mercy before, but no he goes after the most recent person to earn his …well, Wrath.

      • Coldesta Lelast – Sorceress

Rage and grudges can be weird with how you can fixate on someone, maybe just someone who had a look you didn’t like even if they were only in the room instead of being the one to start whatever got you so angry. Also I kinda figure the last time Wrath was summoned, he nearly became a malformed. Maybe for a deadly that’s the equivalent of a grave insult that words just can’t quite convey, and all he sees in his eyes are the ones that were involved with that latest mess (Jack, Ben, Wolfe, Florence and criminiy help Voss wherever he ran off to) that’s still burning the hottest in his mind and those will suffer first.

        Just my speculation of course.

henry and isabelle desummoned not only him but his siblings, using a complex and intricate spell incantation, that could have been stopped if lust paid more attention.

Jack and ben meanwhile unsummoned him by using the essence of serenity and calm that wolfe exudes. They basically hit him with his polar opposite. I think hes much more pissed about that than the first time. It would be like the deadly sin equivalent of having the other team tea bag you on the playing field after they won.

  • As I recall, Mr Thackerey and O’Malley desummoned Wrath to stop him becoming a malform. Think how embarrassing it would have been for a Deadly Sin to be a malform . No doubt Wrath has just popped in to say ‘Thanks’.

Wolfe? Woooolfe? need some calm down here stat!

    • Sanjay Merchant

Well, if music could calm down the Pathos spirit that so rudely disrupted that performance of Violet and Leon, it just might soothe the savage beast that is Wrath. (Enough to escape, at any rate.)

Everyone’s using their curse-word-of-choice and I’m distracted by the shiny thing.

Look how much Ben cares for Mal! He noticed his pain, worried, even over his own! Not a hint of “buck up, wizardling. You’ve had worse.”

  • I’ve been trying to think of some memorable last words for Mr Thackerey before his entrails ruin the carpet:
“Good morning! Do you have an appointment?”
    or
“I’m sorry, have we met? Your face is familiar, but I’m afraid I don’t recall your name.”

You don’t think he’s still angry about the whole “ruined summon” thing, do you? I mean, forgive and forget and all that, right? We’re above such earthly things, right?

Surely it depends on how they’re summoned. For example, the spirit of impatience wasn’t visible outside the summoning circle in which they bargained with it to help run the trains, right?

        • Sanjay Merchant

Although the thought of the poor engineers driving those trains having to deal with a manically impatient little homunculus of a thing does sound weirdly funny.

      • Tricky question (you don’t have to answer it if you don’t want to!): why are the malforms invisible (I mean, besides making it fun to see Ben chase them)?

        • They’re the halfway point between the spirits that Mal can see over people, and the fully summoned spirits like Wrath, here, and they’re more on the invisible side than the visible one.

this is just my brain being stupid but…

Wrath: (breathes in deep then in a calm and intellectual voice) I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to you both for your parts in preventing me from turning into a malform. That entire envy affair was most embarassing and having a malform of myself running around would have been utter humiliation. For your part in stopping that I thank you…. However you did stop my summoning so without further ado (fire everywhere) WRATH SMASH PUNY WITCH OF WIDDERSHINS!

Mal in panels 3-5 are soooo representative of when migraines hit. So that’s going to be my new explanation to people when one hits, “Nope, can’t do anything, someone’s gone and summoned a Deadly nearby and it hurts. *proceeds to pass out*”

    • AJ

It’s true. My mother had migraines when I was growing up and those days were always days on which we were pretty much on our own. School? Nope. Errands? Nope. Dinner? You know how to work the toaster.

  • If I may make a suggestion about the website, I think it would be nice to have a “back to the beginning of this story/chapter” arrow, between the “back to first” and “previous” ones, and its opposite “to the next chapter”, between “next” and “last”.

    • If you go to Archive you can jump to any page. OK, two clicks rather than one, but a good way to navigate the chapters.

      • Yes, of course, but neither do the pages magically appear in the archive page. So currently, either way, to reach the beginning of this story, it’s more like 15-20 clicks and waiting for each page to load. No problem though, I’d rather Kate spent time on the comics than on coding!

    • Okay, I have wrangled something into place- there’s a ‘skip to beginning of this chapter’ part in the sidebar now. Working on getting it actually underneath the comic..

      • Nice, it works!

        • And now I got it underneath the comic! Hah, take that, CSS.

          • Ah! I just used it, you’re a magician. And I love more and more this story cover. It’s nice to be able to go back to it easily. And reread the beginning of the story. So, thanks.
By the way, each time I look at Harry in last panel, I see you drawing her. Nice memory.
