Definitely a legit business proposal.

Looks like I have myself a small buffer, so I’ll mention that I’m setting updates to 8am London time on Tuesdays and Fridays, hopefully I can keep this up for a while!

Off to Thought Bubble this weekend, I’ll be in New Dock Hall, right near the door! Hope to see some of you there!

  • Hmmm.

Nothing bad can possibly come of this – right?

    • Bo Lindbergh

      Bad for whom? :-P

      • Us. Le Zei and McCavity are on their own.

    • Disloyal Subject

I suspect Greed will be pleased with the immediate outcome, but it might bite him in the rear somehow.

      • svartalf

        Only bite Mcavity and Lei…

  • Eve

And new future plots are getting set up. A mechanical genius and a thiefking on the loose, interesting to see where that goes.

    • svartalf

All kinds of “interesting” places. Can’t wait to see…

  • Jeff Eppenbach

You’ve got the brawn, I’ve got the brains. Let’s make lots of money.

    • Sanjay Merchant

So Lei sings that to the mirror, what does MacCavity bring to the table?

      • svartalf

That’s the brawn part of the equation- she’s definitely the brains there.

        • Sanjay Merchant

I dunno, even in physical, hand-to-hand combat, my money’s still on Lei. If nothing else, turning a wrench requires a lot more strength than standing around being sarcastic and self-important.

(Seriously, apart from being a pretty good pickpocket and getting dumb muscle to follow orders, I don’t see what skills he has to bring to any table, much less this one.)

  • Haven

And so, the pickpocketer has become the pickpocketee!

    • svartalf

His is magic, hers is just skill- and there’s no telling if it doesn’t get pick-pocketed back off of her… Sid doesn’t exactly have control over it most of the time…

  • szbnahl

Lei: Sure, just give me a second to unlock the … hey, where’d the key go?
Sid: Odd, I could have sworn the keys were in my other pocket before. Oh well.

    • Jeff Eppenbach

Her power is to manipulate Sid’s curse. Now, I wonder how he got that curse…

    • Graham Garrett

      Perfect.

  • Ghostdanser

Time to ponder…is this simple cause and effect…or are they intentional pawns in the Deadlies plans? Of course simple cause and effect doesn’t mean the Deadlies wouldn’t capitalize on their escape for their own advantage anyways. This could be a two pipe problem…and dammit I quit smoking my pipe 8 years ago. *grumble* The universe is so unkind.

  • Basil Sage

This is one of those pages that packs a bunch of distinct events in it.

    My impressions:

Falling for Lei’s stale distressed damsel act yet again was not one of Sid’s best moments, but I love the fact that he got his pocket (or rather, hand) picked.

The emergence of team Smalltime Villains is exciting. I hope they end up being accidentally indispensable in the fight against team Bigtime Villains. Macavity has always seemed rather two-bit to me, I reckon whatever he’s planning will need a lot of improving by Lei before it’s any good.

Vee has become one of my favorite characters, and I can’t wait to see where this chapter takes her character development.

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

ooh the Thief King is back too

    • svartalf

I think all the players within the main arc are about to be into play hard and fast. ALL OF THEM.

  • Margot

Now that they know about the magpie, do you think they could persuade it to nick the keys back off Lei?

    • John

If they don’t have an immediate need for the keys they might not notice that they have lost them.

      • Dragoon_of_the_Ages

My question is, does it even talk? I wonder about this because the only time that we have been shown the buggerup it didn’t look like a bird, it was a spiritual Magpie. I don’t think it is a buggerup, I think the spirit of thievory, the Magpie, just likes him.

        • Euodiachloris

He’s nice and he hangs around with a lot of interesting people in a lot of interesting places. I can see the appeal. :D

  • John

Good decision Sidney, but you’re not nearly paranoid enough.

  • On second thought, maybe we should hang them all.

  • Del

    Reg’lar updates. Woo-Hoo!

  • Haven’t they hanged him yet either? I don’t know what this country is coming to.
Now watch Macavity trick Ms Feng into letting him out and then double-crossing her.

    • Sanjay Merchant

      Crippling rope shortage?

  • Nonesuch

    Hoo boy.
Everything is hitting the fan in this chapter!

  • Grey_Moment

Well, I was pleased when I realized this chapter included everybody, but I didn’t realize that it would include everybody. I’m betting Voss gets mixed up in all of this next. Just a hunch.

    • Nightsbridge

Probably on the side of the angels, though.

      • John

I am sure that Voss wants to slip away quietly without getting involved in all of this again, but I would be surprised if that works out better for him than anything else he has tried to do.

I do agree that when he gets dragged back into this he will prefer to help Wolfe rather then the deadlies. I am sure he still has some lingering jealousy of Wolfe’s hyper-competence but he also has a lot of guilt over his having gone too far to try to show up Wolfe as well as the realization that Wolfe stayed loyal to him even when he had given Wolfe plenty of reason not to.

        • non_canon

Between this and your comment on down I now really want for the older lady from chapter 5 to show up as the mountain witch and take Voss on as her support team.

          • svartalf

This would be…a refreshing surprise. It’d work well, I think.

    • svartalf

Yep. Curtain call for the first real act…

  • CyberSkull

I met a man in prison who had a business proposal for me. This is gonna be great!

  • Nightsbridge

and now the game TRULY begins

  • John

So I think we now have the most significant characters from chapters 1 and 3.

From chapter 2 we are missing Tim Ciang and possibly the Princess Victoria.
Because of the time travel in chapter 4 I am not sure if we will wind up with any additional characters from there. Maybe the bread baker on another assignment, possibly Mrs. Sykes or The Butler.
From chapter 5 we need Voss (it will be very disappointing if he does not show up) and the old lady who we are assuming is mountain witch.
From chapter 6 I would like to see Elodie and Tilde. Victor Cunningham talking to his grandkids could be amusing as well. We could also get Ms. Ira and/or Mr. Avaritia as well, but between their age and their apparent lack of a connection to either Luxuria or the Barbers after the end of that chapter I would not be surprised if they are not important enough for even a brief cameo.

  • SaberRoy

I’m a little confused. Is the tck in the first panel supposed to represent when she took the keys, because they aren’t in his hand, but if so he’s looking right at the empty hand? Is it instead supposed to represent him putting it into a pocket, as that would make sense and could have then be picked with the hug, but it doesn’t really look like that either.

    • Darastrix

The tck in panel 1 is Sid putting the keys in a breast pocket on the inside of his coat. If you zoom in, you can see the ring being tucked in there. She steals them when she hugs him – her right arm stays in front of him and at that height, is in position to slip the keys out of the coat’s breast pocket.

  • Kristen Thacker

i bet this is the begining of the next plot line
