  • Bo Lindbergh

    He’s corrupted her.

    • JWLM

I prefer to say that he has extended her ethical (and probably moral) horizons.

    • She’s the one flashing her ankles at him, the hussy.

    • MoeLane

Nah, he’s giving her a crash course in the basics so that she can justify taking a level in Adventuress. Which she’ll need, if only for the defense bonuses and improved saves vs. everything.

      • svartalf

And set the stage for the both of them taking a level in Badass later in the arc.

  • Hoorah! Widdershins before bedtime!

Amazing that they have actually walked away from the Sailfin and it is still more or less intact. Who would have bet on that?

    • caribouchat

Still got a hole in the hull, hasn’t it. When they come back, it might be quite full and difficult to get away with quickly.

      • Dud

They’re on an unknown island (it’s definitely not Lundy as we’ve been thinking – there’s no mainland near enough to see building silhouettes from the island.) on a dropping tide so we can expect the sailfin to be high and dry in a few minutes. Henry and Izzy are stuck there for at 8 hours or so – better find somewhere cozy to hide…

    • Sanjay Merchant

Ah, but the adventure is young!

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

You might want to turn your light of if you don’t want them to know which direction you went to~

    • Shee Soon Theng

I suspect they’re using an oil lamp in which case they could turn it down a bit, but you have to remember that for them it’s practically pitch black, even with the lighthouse lamp. One could easily twist an ankle on something in the dark.

      • Dud

The light flashes will destroy night-vision and make it seem even darker.

  • JWLM

I look forward to seeing a filler of their nuptials. (Remember Henry’s social status. Izzy might want to avoid a society wedding, but Henry can’t reasonably get out of one.)

    • warun

Well he’s only a third son, and seems to have been at least somewhat estranged from his family around this time. Given he talks about having to escape the boarding school he went to… They could probably get away with a very small ceremony. Or just elope, which seems more likely for Henry to suggest.

      • MLB

I can totally see them hopping a train/farm cart/magical boat to Gretna Green!

      • Me-me

I think eloping would be the thematically appropriate trope, and also very sweet and fitting to their characters. But eh, we may not even get it, it’s up to Kate.

  • Shee Soon Theng

Since it appears that the Deadly goons (I can’t think of a better term at the moment) can see where Izzy and Henry have come ashore, I wouldn’t put it past them to have Acedia drop the other two off and take their boat offshore, while Gula does something unspeakable to the Sailfin, or at the very least toss the anchor back in and let it drift away.

    • Michael Brewer

Having Acedia take the boat offshore seems like a bad plan. She’ll just take a nap in it and then float off in a random direction and they’ll never …see… ok, wait, maybe that plan does have merit.

    • Firedog

“Unspeakable”, huh? You sound like they’ll have Gula eat that damn boat.

  • Christopher J Stanley

Come back from MCM Expo with two Widdershins books and it’s been updated to boot! Lovely to have met you, Kate. Looking forward to seeing how this storyline develops!

  • Could there be a more perfect pair.

  • Michael Brewer

I have to wonder what they’re planning on doing, once they find the necklace. The opposition will have arrived by then and getting away in a non-flying boat might be problematic. Can Izzy fix the flight circle on the other wing?

    • This is Henry Barber. He hasn’t thought that far ahead yet. Or indeed, thought all that much at all.

      • MoeLane

Henry has a perfect plan, really: ‘when all else fails, improvise.’

        • If no plan survives contact with the enemy, what’s the point of having a plan in the first place?

          • MoeLane

So that you know what your resources and capabilities are, of course. When you know what you CAN do, it gives you a good start in figuring out what you NEED do when, to quote Our British Cousins, things go pear-shaped. :)

            • Make sure you explain that to Lord Barber next time you see him. :-)

              • I’m always entertained when you call him that, because of just how much he’d haaaaate to be called that.

                • Well, I can hardly call him Henry – we haven’t been introduced.

Anyway, from the cast list: “Ms Barber is known as Harry to her friends, so it’s Ms Barber from you”, so I’m simply keeping up the family tradition.

                  • Alétheia

C’mon, the true family tradition is upsetting tradition, so it’d be the opposite for Henry over there, if anything. :P Maaaaaaaaaayyyybeee he’d tolerate being called “Lord Henry” from his friends (if they were joking?), but everyone else? Pssh, nah…

  • Firedog

This whole arc reminds me of D. Gray man a little bit.

Count Luxuria is in search of you,
Looking for his Heart now, have you heard the news?
Maybe you stole it from him, I’ll see if it’s true…
