Wait, I’ve read a book before!

Hey, an anthology I’m part of is being Kickstarted right now! It’s another fairy tales book, this time African instead of Europeon tales, and it’s got some amazing names attached, go have a look!

Support the comic, buy some neat swag!

  • Andy Nguyen

Looks like Rosie’s about to get from Alexa what Van Gogh got from The Doctor :P

Let’s hope Rosie’s story doesn’t end the same way >_>

  • john

Rosie, would that be the “ABCs of Home Bakery” that we saw Alexis using in the July 19th comic?

    • Darkoneko Hellsing

Aaah, thanks, you’ve spared me the search :D

    • Dee

And July 5th, too, when she’s sitting on the train.

  • Sanjay Merchant

So, the greatest wizard of our era is a cookie-baking mom?

    • =Tamar

Cookies must be her specialty, because Alexa is the cake specialist.

      • Sanjay Merchant

Well, she’s described as being there for “salads and sides”, but apparently she’s omnidisciplinary.

        • Great thing about side salad is that you don’t have to be that good at preparing it because no-one ever eats the damn stuff.

          • Hey now, side salads are tasty!

            • Sanjay Merchant

Well, most (but by no means all) restaurants serve rather poor salads, but I’m sure Rosie’s are wonderfully delicious. I mean, she’s here, isn’t she?

          • SoItBegins

            That’s what you think.

    • Nick Godby

The Oracle in the Matrix was a cookie baker.=) powers renowned.

  • … aannndddd … Alexa falls prostrate at her feet “I am not wooorrthy!”

    • David Argall

It should not be that extreme. Alexa knows she is good. Indeed, she may know it too well. But meeting someone that wrote the book you are working out of has to be a bit of a shock [tho it is somewhat strange she is relying on something called the ABC’s. One would think she had memorized it years ago if she still used it at all.]

      • Depends on just how self-deprecatory that title was.

        • David Argall

It shouldn’t be that self-deprecatory. Any publisher is going to want to use that sort of title for a beginner book. True, Capablanca wrote Chess Fundamentals, which doesn’t have the rules of the game [a distinctly fundamental part], but Capa was World Champ at the time and the editor wasn’t going to argue with him. Rosie may be bigger stuff than she lets on, but that much bigger?

  • Michael Brewer

…So, Rosie is the alternate universe version of Julia Child?

  • Did Ms King read the author’s biog on the back cover I wonder? That would be a big hint if her plan worked. Did Rosie vanish mysteriously in the 50s while visiting Widdershins or does she get returned seamlessly to her correct time by Ms King’s cunning plan?

    • =Tamar

Blurb, not blog… no blogs in the 1950s. I think they should all go back to their correct times.

      • That was biog, as in the biography you get inside the dust cover, rather than blog. Is there a serif font in this forum?

        • I thought it said blog at first too, but noticed it on re-read. :)

        • Barium

          Should still be bio.

        • =Tamar

          I need new glasses…

      • SoItBegins

How about we compromise and call it a blob? :)

  • Sortelli

I liked Rosie but now I loooooove Rosie

  • dd

And the book also seems to be with her in her apron pocket when she went back in time.

  • davidbreslin101

Is this an example of “Chekov’s Cookbook”?

    • svartalf

      I’d daresay so…

  • Dragonmystic

I really have to say that the 1950’s were not a good era for women’s morale. :/

  • mendel

…waiting for Alexa to hand the book to Rosie and for her to publish it when she gets back into her time, completing a closed time loop …

  • I love this comic SO MUCH.

  • The Wing

Omg, what were we saying about Hagrid and “just Rosie” on that previous page??

  • This 1950s lady is American, right?
On the whole her accent doesn’t seem nearly as blatant as one would expect of a yankiedoodle… but she says “y’all”… and nobody this side of the pond with all their mental faculties intact would say “y’all” non-ironically.
