  • Little long pig to vary the menu?

    • Sfreader

Raw? Yecch! But it’s taking a lot of power to maintain this “bubble” and also steal supplies and kitchen staff – possible black-magic sacrifices?

    • SoItBegins

My general thoughts exactly. Also, yecch!

  • WeirdOregonian

That is terrifying thinking every week that you might not ever get to see your family ever again nor may they ever see you again. No wonder she’s always so nervous.

  • Oh, someone else with a ring! I wonder if this is like when sloth ‘ate’ the politician… maybe the owner refuses to stop until he has the ‘perfect’ menu, and until then he has to feed whatever it takes to the gluttony demon to keep it powering his little time traveling kidnapping spree?

  • HUNRonin

Well. The story just got a litlebit more horrifying.

  • Ship: Sunk

    • Marvelous TK

What, this little snag? You don’t spend much time around shippers, do you?

      • Somebody

Yeah, it’s probably all some complicated illusion used as an incentive for her to want to go home if they ever want her too. She’s not REALLY married.

        • Flakes

“I had an affair, but don’t worry, it only lasted a couple of seconds *coughinrealtimecough*”

        • Jeck

Yeah, home to that super-supportive husband who has done wonders for her self-esteem and… …wait.

Maybe her husband is a verbally abusive jerk which explains her nervous disposition AND THIS SHIP IS VERY MUCH STILL ALIVE.

. . . Uh. That’s what I’d say if I were going to let the inner shipper out. Which I’m not going to do. Obviously.

          • Sapphire altera

(Two years later…) now that we’ve actually met Geoff, your inner shipper saddens me somewhat. Poor Geoff :(

          • KaReN

Or her nervous disposition is seeing people like guests, cooks and cleaning staffs going into the main hall and never seeing them again. What if she’s next? She has a family and doesn’t trust that ‘going home’ means going home. Because if they really did go home, someone, like the police, would have investigated the inn.

    • It had better be. Shippers won’t even let characters be friends any more.

  • Guess which little sneak is next on the menu.

  • Yeah, but we knew about that already. I remember specifically mentioning the nice big farm upstate.

    • Dollhouse: “Sent to the Attic”.

You do NOT want to go to the Attic.

      • Well, yeah. Attics are dark and dirty and cluttered and spooky.

        • The Dollhouse is creepier than that.

          • Really? Usually they’re just much smaller

By the way, I have absolutely no idea what we’re talking about right now.

            • Joss Whedon’s TV series Dollhouse.

Which is pretty creepy in and of itself.

              • Oh. Not familiar with it.

Bit of worrying premise on that one

                • So, imagine something that creeps out the characters in the series…

                  • You mean other than the disturbing situation they’re living in? Honestly, I can think of all sorts of things, which admittedly is somewhat worrying in of itself. But I take your meaning.

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

    Uh oh.

  • Carl

Was her ring added retroactively to the previous panels? I don’t remember seeing that before.

    • Sanjay Merchant

Either we didn’t notice it, or it’s a pretty thorough Retconjuration.

There are a couple of panels where she seems to be missing it, but I can’t tell if that’s just an artifact of my screen resolution or what.

  • Sanjay Merchant

Given that Edie and Gladys have already suggested the idea that whatever’s in the dining hall eats people, and specifically that Philippe Rousseau was eaten, it seems weird that Alexa’s taking the phrase “sent home” at face value.

    • Andy Nguyen

Wait a minute…I thought you couldn’t offer what you don’t own? That was a major point in the Sloth plotline; Fairbairn needed to get Mal and Wolfe under a contract in order to offer their sleep to Sloth. It’s possible that the staff had their contracts “renegotiated”, and Alexa may not have read the Terms and Conditions of the baking competition carefully enough, but it’s highly unlikely that Edie and Gladys are under any sort of binding agreement, so those two should in theory be safe. On the other hand, it’s likely that this detail of dealing with summons is not common knowledge, and given that the consequences for being wrong about this are bound to be dire, I would imagine that Edie and Gladys would not be willing to stake their lives on a technicality…

    I KNEW IT!!
